Renew Materials

Renew borrowed materials via My Account or by speaking with an Ask Us staff member at any library location.

Some restrictions do apply:

  • Items that are needed by other patrons cannot be renewed.
  • Video games that checkout for eight (8) hours must be renewed by an Ask Us staff member.
  • Overdue items can be renewed by speaking with an Ask Us staff member.
  • Items classified as lost cannot be renewed until speaking with an Ask Us staff member at any library location.
  • Renewal limits do exist. Check the Borrowing and Privileges Guide for more information.

Reserve Materials

Reserve materials cannot be renewed online. Reserve materials can be renewed at the Ask Us or service desks depending on demand and availability. If the item cannot be renewed, there is a 15 minute waiting period before the item can be borrowed again.

Technology Lending

Technology cannot be renewed via My Account with the exception of Kindles. Kindles can be renewed once for up to an additional two (2) week period. 

Checkout periods for technology cannot be extended without prior approval from the Technology Lending team. These exceptions are granted on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed. Special Request items cannot be renewed and must be returned. See Technology Lending Guidelines for more details or to submit a request for an extension.

Interlibrary Services

To request a renewal of an interlibrary loan item, go to My Account and click the Renew button for the item you want to renew. Interlibrary loan lending periods and renewals are dependent on the lending library. Some items may not be eligible for renewal. If there is no Renew button in My Account, the item is not renewable, but if you still need the item, you can place a new request or email Interlibrary Services at library_ils@ncsu.edu to discuss your options.

TRLN Direct items check out for 120 days with no renewals to faculty, graduates, and staff,  or 30 days with 3 renewals to undergraduates. Undergraduates can renew TRLN materials via My Account.
