Finn Erik Overlie

Finn Erik Overlie, age 79, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Loving Father of Lars Erik, Tone, and Petra Overlie; grandfather of Ask, Erik, Vera, and Ariana; brother of Vidar (Ingjerd) and the late Ola (Mirjam) and Sissel Overlie; beloved friend of Olga and Michelangelo Celli.

Finn was born in Norway and grew up with a deep love for both soccer and chess. He excelled at soccer, eventually playing for the first division Molde Football Club. His passion for chess was equally strong, leading him to become a prominent figure in the Pittsburgh chess community, eventually serving on the board of the Pittsburgh Chess Club. He won many tournaments here in the U.S. as well as overseas where he was a member of the Norwegian Chess Federation. Finn also appreciated the simple things in life, especially his walks through Bird Park and South Park. 

Friends received on Saturday, June 8, from noon until 3pm at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Burial will be private.
