"This is a serious offense. ... I called the senator on Friday evening and asked for his resignation," Pillen said at a press conference Monday afternoon. "It's unacceptable."

Pillen said he has not received McKeon's resignation at this time.

McKeon represents the 41st District, which covers several counties in central Nebraska.

An attorney released a statement on behalf of McKeon.

“Senator McKeon is a devoted husband, father of four (two daughters and two sons), a proud Christian, coach, farming consultant, and a public servant of the highest integrity who has never engaged in any activity that could constitute ‘public indecency’ or wrongdoing of that nature,” Pirsch said.
“The claims are intentionally false or misguided and will be met with a full legal defense, including a possible countersuit for defamation. These allegations are unfounded and appear shamefully politically motivated by individuals — including some elected officials — that are attempting to exploit it for personal or political gain.”

Senator McKeon’s longtime nickname, “Dirty Dan” refers to his farming roots, and has also been distorted in recent coverage and exploited by those wishing to do political harm. As a grain-farmer consultant from rural Nebraska, he has for decades said he is “proud to have dirt on my boots, because keeping my feet on the ground and being humble to my farmer roots keeps me grounded.” That nickname — rooted in humility and work ethic — is now being mischaracterized by extreme liberal voices for partisan purposes.

Senator McKeon remains focused on serving Nebraskans — farmers, families, faith-based communities — and on continuing to speak truth to power. As the duly elected Senator of LD 41, who was outspent 3 to 1 in the general election, he will not allow manufactured controversies to negate the will of the voters or otherwise distract from the important work ahead.
