GARDEN CLUB NEWS

Ladysbridge & District Flower & Garden Club will meet on Monday, April 28, in the Garryvoe Hotel at 8pm. The speaker will be Hester Forde, who will give a talk and slideshow on ‘The Lazy Hazy Days of Summer’, focusing on borders and perennials. The event includes a plant and bric-a-brac sale along with a competition, three spring bulbs, same or mixed.

Owenabue Garden and Flower Club, Carrigaline, will host a horticulture talk with Donal Chambers, course director of environment and horticulture, at the Kinsale campus of the Cork Education Training Board. The course covers hands-on cultivation methods together with scientific study of environmental stewardship, conservation, and sustainable agriculture. It takes place on Monday, April 28, at 8pm in St Mary’s NS, Waterpark, Carrigaline, Co Cork. The event includes: Decorative and horticulture competitions, plant sales table, raffle and refreshments. All welcome, visitors €10.

Carrigtwohill Flower & Garden Club will host Mick Lane who will speak about bees, insects and pollination on Tuesday, April 29, at 8pm in Carrigtwohill Community Centre. Honey will be available for sale on the night.

Glenville Flower & Garden Club meets in the Holy Family Centre on Tuesday, April 29, at 8pm. Landscape gardener Dominic Cullinane will give a talk. The event includes refreshments and a raffle.

Ardfield Rathbarry Gardening Club will host guest speaker Aimee from The Crooked Boot Farm & Nursery on Thursday, May 1, at 8pm in the Parish Hall, Rathbarry.

Cork Summer Show

Floral art and horticulture, and fruit and vegetable competitions are now open on Corksummershow. The Cork Summer Show, organised by the Munster Agricultural  Society, takes place on June 14-15 at Curraheen Showgrounds, Cork.

Plant sale

Tramore Road Campus holds its annual plant sale on Wednesday and Thursday. May 7 and 8 showcasing the horticulture students’ work. Plants available include annuals, perennials and herbs. Opening times 9am to 4pm. All welcome.
