How to Get Runes
Understanding how to get Runes in The Forge is useful if you want to strengthen your weapons and armor. They can give powerful traits that increase your damage, make you faster, make you mine quicker, and plenty more. Continue reading this guide to learn how to get Runes, how to get Rune Slots, and everything else to know.
How to Get Runes in The Forge
The main way to get Runes in The Forge is by fighting enemies. However, not every enemy has a chance to drop one, so you'll need to search for certain ones. For example, one of the earliest enemies you can fight for a Rune is the Delver Zombie. They have a 1 in 35 chance of dropping a Miner Shard.
Due to this chance, there's no guarantee that you'll get a Miner Shard when killing them. But if you slay a bunch of them and increase your luck, you'll have a better chance of getting one. This Rune is one of many types that can have a variety of different traits. Here are some of the traits you can get on a Miner Shard:
- Yield I: ?% chance to drop 1 extra ore(s) from mines.
- Luck I: ?% overall luck increase.
- Swift Mining I: ?% faster mining.
- Mine Power I: ?% 9% extra mine damage.
If you're curious about how to get the other Runes added when The Forge was released, we've included them in the table below. With that said, we've only added Runes that we have gotten and/or confirmed as available. Certain ones have leaked, but according to the in-game Index, they aren't lootable yet. For example, the Chill Dust rune, which will likely be part of the snow island that wasn't available at launch.

How to Get Rune Slots in The Forge
Before you can attach Runes to your gear at the Runemaker, you'll need to have Rune Slots available. By going to the Enhancer and picking the choice, "Yes, I'm here to enhance," you can enhance your armor or weapons. This will then reveal a window with your gear where you can select one to see the requirements and chances of succeeding.
Different weapons and armor will require certain enhancement levels to unlock Rune Slots. Alongside getting those slots, you'll also increase the stats of your gear upon succeeding. Keep in mind, this process requires using Essence and money. It also has a chance of failing as you reach higher enhancement levels.
If you're wondering how to get Rune Slots for your pickaxe, this unfortunately relies on the pickaxe itself. You'll need to buy one that has slots since you can't enhance them. While the first couple of pickaxes, like the Bronze and Iron ones don't have any, you'll get a slot with the Gold Pickaxe.
