Cold Snap
Winter has arrived to ARC Raiders, and so has the Cold Snap map modifier! It's a limited-time event where a cold front of snow appears on a map for a short period of time. You and your friends can work together to explore these snowy regions, and there are a few things you should know about this unique event. This page shares with you everything you need to know about the Cold Snap map modifier in ARC Raiders.
How Cold Snap Works in ARC Raiders
The Cold Snap modifier works like the other map modifiers, where you'll see a notification on your map of where there is one available. You'll have two hours to participate in the event before it disappears. For example, the Cold Snap event is available on my map in the Buried City.
When you arrive on the map, the Cold Snap event has three notable modifiers:
- You can harvest Candleberries
- You have an increased chance of higher-tier loot
- There is a damaging cold effect on the map
Candleberries are a big one for those participating in the Flickering Flames event for ARC Raiders. You'll want to pick those to increase your progress in the Flickering Flames rewards event, and unlock additional items for it, such as exclusive Raider items and Raider Tokens!
For many, the increased chance for higher-tier loot is a repeated bonus. This effect appears on several other map modifiers in ARC Raiders, meaning you'll be able to find some of the better loot in the game, much faster. However, with more reward comes more risks, and you can expect other players to become more aggressive toward you should you encounter them before escaping.
The final effect of the Cold Snap is a damaging cold effect. This modifier is exclusive to the map, and how it works is that the longer you're outside, the colder it builds up around you. You'll be able to see this on the user interface based on the etching ice that builds up around your screen.
These effects can begin to damage your character if you remain out in the cold for too long. The way you can stop this effect from harming your character is by dipping into a building, and waiting for the ice to disappear. We were able to do this with any of the standard buildings in the Buried City. You'll notice the ice begins to melt away, and then you can return to the bitter cold to continue looking for Candleberries!
