Simon Grix signs new Hull FC contract as admission made on club progress

Grix has signed a new deal at Hull FC.

Hull FC assistant coach Simon Grix has signed a new two-year extension at the club. The former Halifax Panthers and Warrington Wolves player arrived at the Black and Whites ahead of the 2024 season on an original two-year deal, with the 40-year-old putting pen to paper on a new contract earlier this year.

The deal lines Grix up with the contracts of head coach John Cartwright and fellow assistant coach Andy Last, who both arrived ahead of the 2025 season on three-year deals. All three coaches are now signed up until the end of the 2027 season.

Grix first came into contact with Hull while Tony Smith was head coach, doing some consultant coaching during the 2023 season. He made his stay permanent ahead of 2024, taking the interim coach role several months later after Smith and the club parted ways.

The Halifax native will look to continue his assistant role as the side begin pre-season training on Monday, with the aim to go one better in 2026 and finish in a finals position.

Speaking on his new deal, Grix told Hull Live: "Signing an extension wasn't a difficult decision. Although year one wasn't good for certain circumstances and reasons, year two was good, and I really enjoyed it.

"2025 was a much more enjoyable year. It was a different playing group with different staff and just generally a better feeling around the place.

"Obviously, when you're going into games and you've got a chance of winning and competing, it does feel different and it's a better place to be. That was reflected in the performance of the boys."

Reflecting on what was a much better season, Grix continued: "It was good to see some young lads come in. In our time off, we've looked back over the season and looked at games, and we've seen development in those lads. In terms of coaching, that's been rewarded. It's been good seeing them develop within a senior group.

"For me as a coach, it's also highlighted some areas where I need to be better and that's my focus going into this year, but again, on the whole, it was an enjoyable year.

"We achieved a lot as a group from where we were but we feel like we could have achieved a little more. That gives us something to look forward to next year."
