The domestic opening weekend bow for Melania. Amazon MGM Studios paid $40 million for worldwide rights to release the Brett Ratner-directed project both in theaters and on its streaming service Prime Video, making Melania the most expensive doc in history in what many view as an attempt to curry favor with President Donald Trump. Amazon spent another $35 million on the global marketing campaign, with at least $20 million dedicated to the U.S.
Milestone
New Record
With 8.65 billion minutes viewed, Stranger Things saw the largest single-week total since Nielsen began tracking streaming viewing in 2020, beating the previous mark of 8.46 billion minutes — also held by Stranger Things during the week of its final season premiere in late November. The series now has the four best weekly totals ever in Nielsen’s charts, including 7.2 billion minutes a week after season four premiered in 2022 and 6.89 billion minutes.
SPOTLIGHT
STREAMING
The most-viewed series and movies of the week
↑ Stranger Things ended its five-season odyssey on Netflix on top — of not just the weekly streaming charts, but also Nielsen’s all-time weekly numbers.
↑ Netflix’s documentary Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story led the movie rankings with 620 million viewing minutes.
↑ Landman declined for the first time during its second season — but only by a slight 4 percent to 1.58 billion minutes for Paramount+.
↑ Library shows The Closer (1.43 billion minutes), Homeland (1.08 billion) and Bluey (1.06 billion) also had big weeks.
BOX OFFICE
The highest-grossing films domestically each weekend
↑ Indie pic Iron Lung from Mark Fischbach (aka Markiplier) of YouTube gaming fame nipped at Send Help‘s heels but ultimately placed second with nearly $17.9 million.

A Killer Post-NFL Premiere
Fox’s drama Memory of a Killer, starring Patrick Dempsey, got a prime spot for its series premiere following the NFC Championship game — and it made the most of it. The Jan. 25 debut drew 7.39 million viewers, the biggest same-day audience for a network drama not named Tracker so far this season. It’s also the best showing for any Fox scripted show in almost six years (since an episode of 911 in April 2020). Sustaining the post-NFL bounce is unlikely, but it could entice at least some viewers to follow the show to its regular home on Mondays.
BROADWAY
The top theatrical productions each week
↑ Mamma Mia! played its final Broadway performance Feb. 1, after opening at the Winter Garden Theatre on Aug. 14. The musical revival, which was often one of the top grossing shows in the industry, brought in $1.8 million in its final week.
