Class Overview

Join me and Heather Sanford, LCSW, for a live, interactive half-day training on Zoom designed to help you confidently teach essential emotional health tools and skills that last a lifetime.

This workshop is for mental health professionals, physicians, nurses, coaches, and educators who want to provide practical, evidence-based emotions education for teens and preteens using The Change Triangle® as a guide.

Participants will learn to facilitate group experiences that build self-awareness, hope, and emotional empowerment in young people. Understanding how emotions work in the mind and body helps children realize their feelings are natural and manageable, fostering confidence and resilience.

The Change Triangle—a trauma-informed, mind-body tool grounded in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)—maps the path from anxiety and disconnection to calm, confidence, and compassion. By learning it, participants develop skills to help youth move from shame and avoidance to authenticity and well-being.

Early exposure to this framework also dispels harmful myths about emotions that often lead to shame and anxiety. Many children believe that sadness, anger, or fear mean weakness, which causes them to suppress emotions—putting stress on their minds and bodies. Teaching them to work The Change Triangle helps prevent, ease, and heal anxiety and depression rooted in buried emotions.

We’ve added a 2-hour workshop for parents and other adults who work with kids to this curriculum package. Many adults, like children, were also taught myths and misconceptions about emotions, and they too benefit greatly from learning The Change Triangle®. By giving both kids and adults the same foundation in emotions education, we help families get on the same page and speak a shared emotional language.

In this Train-the-Trainer Workshop, you’ll learn how to facilitate our 2-hour Teen and Preteen workshops for youth and caregivers. You’ll experience what it feels like to participate in a Change Triangle group, explore the theory through clear, engaging presentations, and practice facilitation skills in small groups to build confidence.

Together with the Emotions Education 101 Teen and Preteen Curriculum Package, this training provides a step-by-step guide to running these classes in your practice, agency, hospital, school, or organization—ready to use the very next day.
