How We Choose What to Test

Health / Jessica Juliao

Before we test a single product, our editors interview medical professionals and industry experts—including physicians, dermatologists, registered dietitians, physical therapists, and OB-GYNs—to define what really matters for safety, effectiveness, and usability. Their insights shape the criteria and testing methods we use for each category.

Our Testing Process

We believe products should work where you actually use them—at home. Our experienced writers and editors develop detailed, medically reviewed test plans and methodologies. We then evaluate products in everyday settings. We assess essential factors such as ease of use, comfort, durability, accuracy (where applicable), maintenance, and overall value. We also consider the brand’s reliability, price, and track record when building our test list. While we sometimes receive samples, we purchase the vast majority of products we test.

Beyond the numbers, we share qualitative observations you won’t find on a spec sheet—setup surprises, design quirks, what we loved, and what missed the mark—so you can weigh the trade-offs against your needs, lifestyle, and budget.

How We Make Money

We may earn an affiliate commission when you click a link and make a purchase—on some, but not all, products. These commissions never influence which products we feature or what we say about them. We only link to retailers with a proven record of dependable service.

Our product coverage is purely editorial. We set our own criteria, purchase most products ourselves, and do not allow retailers, PR teams, or sales reps to direct our content. Ahead of testing, we review current research and interview independent experts to understand best practices, common pitfalls, and what to look for in a given product.

After publication, our work doesn’t stop. We continually update recommendations to reflect new research, product changes, and real-time availability.

While our content is medically reviewed for accuracy, always consult your own healthcare team to determine whether a specific product—especially a supplement or medical device—is right for you.

Safety

Health products and guidance can change. We encourage you to monitor official announcements from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and to register purchases with manufacturers so you receive recall or safety notices promptly.
