The powers that be have dictated that you don't need to start worrying about the best Mother's Day gifts until a little later in 2025. This year, the national celebration falls on 30 March, meaning you've got more time to think about the best gifts for mum… so long as you're reading this before, say, 28 March, that is. (And if you have left it late, check out my guide to buying flowers online.)
Think of this as your opportunity to get your gift in order with plenty of days to spare: most brands have already launched their mum-centric lines, meaning that you should have an easy time of it. In this guide — one of over 25 I (Jessie Atkinson) look after for British GQ — I've listed the best of what's on offer, from classics like chocolates and jewellery to more unusual products such as a diffuser for the car or a jug shaped like a fish (both very popular options, FYI). I hope you find something that your mum will love — chances are she more than deserves it.

How I chose the best Mother's Day gifts
As part of my role as senior commerce writer at British GQ I, Jessie Atkinson, look after more than 25 gift guides including everything from the best gifts for her to the best tech gifts. For all of these articles, I spend a healthy portion of time sorting through press releases, attending product launches and trying and testing things at home in order to work out what — small and large — is actually worth your money. I also rely on my fellow colleagues' recommendations (and leave out anything they think is a dud), as well as assessments from, to give one relevant example, my own mum. Everything in this guide has been either tested by me or someone I know, is made by a brand GQ has worked with and trusts, and/or has excellent customer reviews.

Best overall Mother's Day gifts
If we're talking the big picture — and with this section, I am — it's important to remember that what your mum probably wants most of all is to a) spend time with you, and b) feel like you appreciate her. You don't need to buy something to achieve either of these things: in fact, it's more important for you to book in to visit her. That being said, it'll definitely help with the appreciation part of things if you've been thoughtful enough to buy her something you think she'll really like. Here are some of your best options on that front.
The White Company
Cashmere Bed Socks
Would this Mother's Day gift guide even be a Mother's Day gift guide if there wasn't a smattering of cashmere goodies included? I don't think so — and nor does The White Company.
Marks & Spencer
Cashmere Jumper
The most affordable pure cashmere you can buy — in 21 choices of colour, no less.
Charlotte Tilbury
Magic Cream Moisturiser
You may not know much about moisturiser beyond which one you favour, so trust me on this: Charlotte Tilbury's ‘Magic Cream’ is worth the spend.
Arket
Green Glass Vase
Ten green bottles hanging on the wall… or just one, bottle green vase, for the flowers you bought her.
Marks & Spencer
Afternoon Tea Letterbox
No need for the postman to even knock with this letterbox hamper by M&S, which contains three kinds of cake, two types of biscuit and 16 'Luxury Gold' English breakfast tea bags.
Rachel Jackson
Gemstone Mama Necklace
The Rachel Jackson ‘Mama’ necklace, now with added gemstones: an enduring classic with added chutzpah.
Bloom & Wild
Arabella Liberty Bouquet & Summer Stripe Jug
To Arctic Monkeys, 'Arabella' is a woman in a cheetah print coat, but to Bloom & Wild, it's the prettiest bouquet of the season, all ready to turn up at your mum's door in Liberty print wrappings and a handmade ceramic jug.
Hotel Chocolat
Mother's Day Everything Sleekster
Hotel Chocolat's decadent crowd-pleasers in a special Mother's Day sleeve.
Lulu Guinness
Choose Love T-Shirt
Buying into Lulu Guinness' contribution to the refugee advocacy group Choose Love means that she gets a nifty T-shirt, the charity gets a donation, and you get a feeling of selflessness and wellbeing.
Elizabeth Scarlett
Embroidered Mother's Day Pouch
Flowers may be Bloom & Wild's expertise, but embroidery is Elizabeth Scarlett's. Add this beautiful needlepoint art pouch to your Mother's Day basket to give her a dose of everlasting blooms with her ephemeral ones.
Mejuri
Mini Pearl Bracelet
A whisper of a trinket, Mejuri’s fine chain bracelet with pearl “satellites” is delicate, beautiful, made from cultured freshwater pearls…and under £100.
Telmont
Reserve Brut NV Champagne
Left it a tad late? Bag a bottle of Telmont with your last-minute flowers, now available in select Waitrose stores nationwide.
Best affordable Mother's Day gifts
I dip under £30 for this edit of really gorgeous gifts that should delight her just as much as something much, much more expensive. That's if she's not a megalomaniac with designs on an Hermès Birkin bag, which I suppose isn't totally out of the question. If that is your mum: condolences. For the rest of you, the following food bits, homeware additions and beauty grails should more than please.
The White Company
'Burnham' Heart Mug
You don't need three guesses as to what colour The White Company's best-selling ‘Burnham’ heart mug comes in… but know it also comes in clay pink.
Blondie's Kitchen
I Love You Cookie
My favourite cookies in gigantic form, with added ‘I Love You’ script. Sometimes the piping bag is mightier than both the sword and the pen.
Ichendorf
Glass Heart Tumbler
It seems impossible that something this covetable could cost £20, but sometimes life is gentle like that.
Biscuiteers
Gin & Blossoms Mini Gift box
I love Nio Cocktails' just-add-ice cocktails and I love Biscuiteers' dizzyingly perfect iced biscuits. In this gift set, she'll get one of each.
Papier
Softback Spiral Recipe Journal
A forensically-sectioned recipe journal for keeping her concoctions safe. One day it'll make for a beautiful archive of her handwriting, too.
Anna + Nina
Good Morning Plate
Anna + Nina’s twee-but-cool crockery and glassware hits every time, and is somewhat of a one-stop-shop for gifts. This off-white breakfast plate with “Good Morning” inscription is destined to soon be laden with pancakes.
Cadbury
Love You Mum Dairy Milk Chocolate Bar
The Cadbury Milk Tray man: now that's a guy who probably loves his mum. He'd be first in line for this personalised bar of Dairy Milk.
Lepelclub
Faux Pearl Cake Server
All the amazing cakes she bakes deserve an equally splendid serving utensil, do they not?
Not Another Bill
Personalised Comb
Not Another Bill's inspirational bespoke section gets a new gem in the form of a personalised comb. (Add her name for an extra £6).
Rose Quartz Crystals
Three heart-shaped rose quartz stones make for a highly unusual gift geared towards those who enjoy spiritual wellness and pretty trinkets.
Kent
Paddle Brush
Question: how great can a hairbrush really be? Answer: pretty great, if it's from Kent.
Merit
Flush Balm Blusher
One of the best blush formulations I've ever used. If you don't know which shade to go for, try comparing the colour of her cheeks in a recent picture of her in make-up to Merit's 13 colour options.
Emma Bridgewater
Personalised Mug
No cottage kitchen is complete without a helping of Emma Bridgewater, and there’s no need to go OTT with it either. A quaint little mug like this one with illustrated flowers will do nicely. Add personalisation if you so wish.
Neal’s Yard Remedies
Balance Foaming Bath
At this point, a bath foam like this is almost as much a classic as a bouquet of flowers.
This Works
Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
Clinically proven to induce a faster and more refreshing slumber, this aromatic pillow spray is infused with lavender, camomile, and vetivert to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, regardless of what her day might have looked like.
Best homeware Mother's Day gifts
A caveat: just because the memories of your mum are most closely tied with the home doesn't mean that she'll want something in that arena. If she's more likely to be found at the climbing wall or the local Italian then you should look into gifts that support those endeavours. That being said, most people — parent or not — love a gift that makes being in the house that little bit more comfortable and luxurious. These are my favourite picks on that front.
Le Creuset
Stoneware Heart Mug and Saucers
Launched for Valentine's Day but living rent free in my brain for probably the rest of my life: a set of cups and saucers shaped like hearts by everyone's favourite stoneware brand Le Creuset.
Sowvital
Watering Can
Sowvital makes indoor plant accessories that vastly decrease the likelihood of another parlour palm massacre. Your mum's plants will love to see the brand's new watering can coming.
Glass Cocktail Straws
A glass ornament intended to be drank out of, these straws are handmade to the specifications of jewellery designer Karen Kriegel. A special and spectacularly different gift.
Simba
Felted 'Stormur' Slippers
From the people who brought you one of the best pillows and one of the best mattresses in the world comes this: a felted slipper that uses reflexology as a means to perfecting what is, in essence, mattresses for your feet.
Oliver Bonas
Gluggle Jug
Easter is no longer the only time a fish can upstage everyone. With a Gluggle jug, a guppy-mouthed pesce can be the centre of every gathering: whether there's water or wine inside is down to your mum's own discretion.
Cowshed
Fluffy Robe
Put a stop to her hotel thievery with a fluffy towelling robe that's better than anything she could squeeze into her suitcase.
Casetify
Spring Botanicals Phone Case
Casetify absolutely churns out lovely phone cases — so much so that it's often difficult to choose between them — but this floral edition is one of the fairest of them all.
Jo Loves
Rosé Candle
For the fan of more traditional fragrances comes this: Jo Loves' layered rosé candle. Burn to reveal three scents: rose and lemon, rose and date, then pure rose petal.
Addison Ross
Blue Gingham Coasters
Addison Ross' latest collection comes in baby blue gingham with added bows. As always, it's in the brand's signature high-shine lacquer. Buy her in with this set of coasters.
Diptyque
Baies Candle
One of Diptyque's most famous scents, Baies' notes of blackcurrant leaves, buds, roses and ambergris has been a firm favourite for 40 years. Incidentally, that's a number that your dear mother doesn't look a day over herself.
Rituals
Ritual of Sakura Gift Set
Rituals' floral ‘Sakura’ scent is the star of this comprehensive set, feat. body cream and scrub, candle, and the best foaming body wash in the biz.
Not Another Bill
Embroidered Cocktail Napkins
A martini, a negroni, a spicy marg and a bramble are the cocktails embroidered on these linen napkins, but it’s not the only combo available: you can also choose from eggs and beans, croissant and bacon, chilli and onion or… a pair of skiers.
Best beauty and style Mother's Day gifts
Here we have some of the funner things you can buy for your mum, from delightful heart-shaped rings, to bright pastel jumpers, to season-saluting leopard print tote bags, to bright red lambswool scarves… can you tell I want everything listed here myself?
& Other Stories
Leopard Print Leather Tote Bag
I'm in love with this bag, and the likelihood is that your mum will be too. If she's not a leopard print kind of woman, though, head to & Other Stories anyway: there's bound to be something in knitwear or accessories that she'd like.
Lulu Guinness
Red Lambswool Scarf
A postbox red scarf in indulgent lambswool: simple and luxurious in equal measure.
& Other Stories
Relaxed Knit Jumper
This season's It pastel knit: a slick of blue reminiscent of a bright cloudless day on one of & Other Stories' evergreen silhouettes.
Radley
'Goswell' Leather Handbag
A chic and relatively affordable way into the Bottega ‘Intecciato’ woven leather boom.
Jones Road
Hero Kit
The best of excellent minimal makeup brand Jones Road in two different blush shades. Tip: if she wears gold jewellery, choose ‘Peachy’ and if she wears silver, choose ‘Pinky’.
Astrid & Miyu
Initial Pavé Pendant Necklace
Choosing from between the many jewellery brands clamouring for your gift-giving money can prove a tough one. As our full guide will attest though, there are a few places that don’t take the mick. One of them: Astrid & Miyu, from which we love this initial pendant necklace in crystal pavé.
BlooBloom
'Darling' Sunglasses
Some of the best sunglasses I've tried in recent years, especially at that price point.
Lululemon
Belt Bag
The bum bag has had a rebrand. Now a ‘sling bag’ — or, in Lululemon speak, an ‘Everywhere Belt Bag’ — it’s a style to be worn around the shoulder and packed with as much as you can physically fit in it (up to a litre). Available in ten colours.
Beautifect
Makeup Box
A make-up bag evolution that's decked out with a mirror, light and plenty of storage, the Beautifect box boasts the ability to accurately simulate daylight and evening light, illuminating the face without any shadows and allowing her to apply make-up seamlessly.
Fresh
Awaken Radiance Set
The Fresh endeavour is to make everyone's faces look a bit more, well, fresh. I can attest to its soy cleanser and black tea eye cream's efficacy in this.
Missoma
Jelly Heart Gemstone Ring
A jelly heart encased in gold, there are multiple colours available in the style by Missoma, using differing stones to create the desired effect. This pink model is my favourite, with its cartoonish use of quartz.
Good Squish
Organza Scrunchie
The fashion scrunchie of the moment comes courtesy of Good Squish. This version is a cloud-like delight in frothy layers of organza.
Best luxury Mother's Day gifts
If you can afford to spend upwards of £100, or considerably more, know buying something that will last her a decade is always worth skipping a couple of week's worth of takeout coffees for.
Laurent-Perrier
Cuvée Rosé Brut Champagne
The kind of champagne you break out on days when you receive really, really great news, Laurent-Perrier’s rosé champagne is described by our in-house alcohol expert as “unbelievably good”.
Paul Smith
'Bridget' Swirl Shoulder Bag
Paul Smith's new-for-spring ‘Bridget’ is a double threat: it has a swirling print that's reminiscent of the 1990s and the shape of something absolutely contemporary.
Mejuri
Dôme Mixed Pebble Earrings
Looking a little like a liquid droplet of gold vermeil, these Mejuri Dôme earrings make the most of an iconic throwback trend.
Beautifect
Glow Flex Makeup Mirror
Beautifect makes the most innovative and covetable makeup mirrors on the market, and this new update adds a magnified, rotating display to its list of specs.
Liberty London
Beauty Kit
Over £400 worth of designer beauty products for just £130, feat. Neom, Malin + Goetz and a Liberty print eye mask.
Antler
Essential Tote Bag
A does-everything urban exploration tote from the people who brought your mum her favourite suitcase.
Marc Jacobs
Leather Beauty Bag
That ‘The Tote Bag’ trend, shrunk down to pebbled leather wash bag size.
Eberjey
'Gisele' Pyjamas
I've tried more than my fair amount of pyjamas, and Eberjey's impossibly soft jersey option is still one of my top favourites.
Best Mother's Day gifts for the mum who has everything
Haven't yet found something you think your mum will coo and proclaim you her favourite over? Here's a bunch more suggestions that buck categorisation, from fancy Smythson writing paper, to a Fortnum & Mason herbal tea, to an essential oil diffuser for her car.
Astrid & Miyu
Silver Infinity Cuff
Another relatively-affordable jewellery win from Astrid & Miyu, this time via a rhodium-plated sterling silver bangle.
Jo Malone London
Car Diffuser
If a new perfume bottle, diffuser or scented candle feels a bit done, you might not have been aware that the label also produces air conditioning vent-mounted car diffusers for a number of its best selling fragrances. Something extra luxurious to elevate the vehicle you once called your taxi service.
Boux Avenue
Stripe Cotton Pyjamas
Boux Avenue's striped pure cotton pyjamas are as crisp and spring-like as you can imagine, and yet they come in at only £50.
Smythson
Bordered Writing Paper
Lovers of analogue should be celebrated for their dedication to the old ways, and not only because it makes your gifting endeavours so much easier. We suggest visits to the vinyl store for records and the second-hand book shop for paperbacks, of course, but reams of handsome, sturdy writing paper works wonders too.
Nio Cocktails
Postcards from France
She may have everything she could ever want, but when the alcohol cabinet runs dry, a box or four Nio Cocktails in the fridge will be a saving grace.
The Willoughby Book Club
3-Month Novel Subscription
The Willoughby Book Club is making Richard and Judys of all of us with its three-month subscription model. With it she’ll receive: a gift-wrapped novel selected based on her tastes and the smug feeling associated with being well-read and up on what’s new.
Fortnum & Mason
Apricot, Honey & Lavender Infusion Tea Bags
Apricot, honey and lavender are born teabag mates.
Kindle
PaperWhite
Treat your mother to her own personal library this Mother's Day with one of Amazon's Kindle Paperwhites. Available in three colour options (black, green and blue), the Paperwhite boasts up to 32GB of storage, so she can store a bookshelf's worth of books whose virtual pages can be turned with the touch of a button. Light and slim, it makes for an easy travel companion and is even waterproof.
Animal Crossing
They say there are still some stragglers who haven’t yet enjoyed the community-driven gaming phenomenon that is Animal Crossing. If she’s in possession of a Nintendo Switch already then she’ll soon be hooked on this twee and addictive piece of cosy gaming genius.
Emma Bridgewater
Polka Dot Cake Tins
Functional cake tins in Emma Bridgewater's classic polka dot, with added recipes to the underside of each.
Felted Wool Sheep
Part ornament, part plushie, this handmade balloon-toting sheep comes in a diminutively-sized cloud of hand-felted organic wool.
Dry Gin Hamper
If she really, really likes a gin and tonic, this hamper provides the goods, as well as chocolate, olives and biscuits to pair.
