There doesn't seem to be a page for mainland Spain, so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place...but I was born in Tenerife! The Golden Crown of Sevilleis set in Seville, Andalucia.
It is a suspense novel, the action takes place in contemporary southern Spain, following a race-against-time hunt for a lost hoard of Dark Age gold artefacts.
These are based on the Guarrazar treasure (a real Visigoth treasure hoard, found in 1860 near Toledo, but stolen from museums at the start of the Spanish Civil war and never recovered) and the exquisite items of Visigoth gold given to Heinrich Himmler when he visited the fascist regime in Spain in 1940, that have never been returned by the German government.
The hunt for a quasi-historical lost treasure is an entertaining framework for the novel, which actually explores other issues. The action involves an ordinary Spanish family, for whom the search for the treasure leads to unexpected discoveries: about their own past, their faith, and their nation's past.
I recommend Collision on Tenerife by Jon ZiomekCollision on Tenerife: The How and Why of the World's Worst Aviation Disaster
The Banana Road: It's Tenerife But Not As You Know It by Andrea Montgomery.
The Trial by S.R. Masters.
