i swear this book is so underrated. more people need to read this book !! it wasn't one of the best books I've read but it deserves more hype. This book perfectly shows what it's like to have an eating disorder. It shows how difficult it is to stop these behaviours, in a raw, unflinching way. It describes EDs as they : as if you are stuck between life and death. moving through all the motions of life, while not really 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨. as if you are stuck struggling underneath the ice, trying to thaw your way out.

she was so pure and clearly struggling that it felt painful to read at times. my heart ached for lia as i saw some of myself in her - her thoughts, her actions. she really just needed someone to be there with her, she was scared of being alone, which ultimately led her to create toxic relationships to have someone to stand with her. that was something i didn't quite like, but i guess i can understand why she did it.

⁀➷ “we turned us into wintergirls, and when she tried to leave, I pulled her back into the snow because I was afraid to be alone.”

the eating disorder representation in this book was done very well, in my opinion. some of lia's thoughts in this book mirror thoughts that i myself have had. for many people with eating disorders, this book is so relatable and it makes you feel as if you are not alone. and even people who don't have an eating disorder, it gives some insight into what goes on in the mind of someone with an eating disorder.

the self-harm representation was so real. lia's attempts to stop showed how difficult it can be to change your thoughts and ultimately your actions. this part was relatable for me, and i can imagine it will be for many people. overall, the author did a great job for the sh rep.
