I did not read "The Traitor's Wife", the prequel to this novel, but I saw this one at the library and figured I'd give it a try. It was somewhat lighter than the usual historical fiction I read, but that's not necessarily a criticism. This was much more character-driven, as another reviewer says, "soapy melodrama", but fun! A quick, entertaining read, lighter on the historical background and more of a romance, I guess. I would recommend it to fans of lighter historical fiction and with reservations to fans of historical romance (I mean, you do have the Black Death and all . . .)
