Mini Review:

I was really shocked with myself when I found myself not enjoying Unhinged. I practically devoured Splintered just a few months ago, so my change in tastes could not be the reason why I wanted to DNF this sequel. I know I've been writing my reviews in a dot-point format (which is probably suggesting that I'm falling into a review slump--thank god I have recently chosen two co-bloggers to help me) a lot lately however it seems the only conventional way to put down my thoughts on a novel lately.

- My main qualm with Unhinged was the characters. All of them. But mainly Alyssa. So somehow, she's turned into a really insecure, stupid and idiotic little brat. Like HOW? How can you just turn into such an unlikeable narrator? *sobs* I liked the way you were. *grabs out more tissues* I mean, Alyssa struggles to accept facts. She runs away from them, she thinks that if she does nothing and ignores problems, they'll go away. She's not a strong protagonist at all, or even determined to set things right.

- Secondly, the romance. Yes, like all YA books like to do, it takes over the plot. I used to be Team Jeb, but y'know what? Nevermind. I'm Team IDon'tCare. Why am I not Team Jeb? Well, basically Alyssa and Jeb's relationship makes Ali feel insecure. THEN WHY BE IN A RELATIONSHIP? If you feel that someone is bringing you down, then why? I beg for an answer. Why not go to Team Morpheus? Err..well half my bloggy friends would come up to me and say: "I told ya so! Morpheus is yummy." Yeah....no. And that's not the reason. I was never a fan of Morph in the first place because he is a creepy guy in general. Honestly. He gives me the chills. Bad chills. Like run-away-eww-creepy-guy.

- Lastly, the lack of plot. WHERE IS MY PLOT. WHERE IS MY WONDERLAND. I really missed these two aspects, the plot and Wonderland were utterly lacking (mainly due to the romance) and only kicked in much later in the novel.

All in all, I am really disappointed with Unhinged. Though please don't hesitate to try this is you loved Splintered, because I believe I'm a black sheep. Again. Yay. *sarcasm*

~Thank you Thames and Hudson Australia for sending me this copy!~

Tandie Melanie, I've got to admit that I'm judging a book by its cover this time. That guy is creepy. Not good creepy either. Like clown or pedophile creepy!

Morph is Mr. Creepy. Also, Splintered was good! I just did not see the point of this book and the characters were really bleh

message 4: by Haraiah Eve (new)

Haraiah Eve I didn't really like Splintered because of the things you've pointed out above - characters, romance (I'm also Team I don't care) and it seems like Unhinged will give me the same thing. That's sad. I really loved the world building of Splintered.

aimee (aimeecanread) I couldn't agree more Melanie! I loved Splintered, but this one is annoying the hell out of me. I might put it off first. :/

Nereyda (Nick & Nereyda's Infinite Booklist) I was not a fan of Alyssa in this book and I've never like Morpheous...

Jing Zhi I have never read a review that so accurately describes how I feel about a book before! Took the words right out of my mouth :O

Denisa I am reading it just now and hell I agree with you so much! I kinda liked Splintered, it was a quite good Y-A book but Unhinged? I want to burn this book so hardly and you know things got real when I say this about book. I haven't been so angry about one probably in my whole life... Honestly I am seriously thinking about putting this series down and damn I was able to read the whole Vampire diaries, which was the worst series ever I've read (now it would be Splintered series probably)!

Athena (OneReadingNurse) I agree with you, she was a brat in book one and it's so much worse. I hate all the characters except Alyssa's dad and he's the only one I'm rooting for at this point
