it was amazing

** spoiler alert ** What a comeback! After the fairly lackluster Two Serpents Rise, this third book in the Craft Sequence series (publication order only, please) kicked my ass and stuck me in a Penitent's stone suit. I loved the characters, the pacing, the plot. The young teenaged thief Izza, the serious priestess Kai, the mysterious strongwoman Cat. The idols as godlings in a pool that birthed both humans and gods. There's so much depth and wonder in this book that I wished it wouldn't end.

There are so many scenes that stand out for me in this book, as compared to the second book.

When the Craftswoman Kevarian is summoned as a deus ex machina at the end of the story:

Ms. Kevarian stood between Jace and Kai, her expression grim and her suit so black it seemed cut from the inside of an unlit cave. She set her briefcase down. "Good evening."

Mary fucking Poppins. I'll hold your umbrella.

When Jace is explaining his view of the whole affair: "When you say it that way, it sounds bad." He shook his head. "We've been saving the world. One death at a time.

Damn, that put shivers up my spine.

Loved, loved, loved this book.
