You're not like Peter Van Houten, are you?

What have you done to my brain...

and my heart...

I'm not gonna review how exquisite John Green can write, or how he can create characters as special as Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, or how amazing he can tell a story. Despite the huge number of ratings and the spectacular average rating, this book is not perfect. You might find it unrealistic, because if there are many of us who see the life and its complexity like Hazel and Gus do, this world will be such a happy place. So like any other book, this one also might be a miss or a hit. If it's a miss, then you can say it's not worth the hype. But if it's a hit, it hits hard.

Everything in this book: the characters, the story, the words, they all have the power to be an inspiration. If you haven't read it, I suggest to take the chance.

“There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was time before organisms experienced consciousness, and there will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows that’s what everyone else does.”

“Without pain, how could we know joy?' This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”

I tried to read one by this author as a "preview" to this one. Found it at the library, but couldn't get into it. So glad you are enjoying!

I'm really enjoying it, I love his writing, and the emotions.. *sigh* it's great. If later you decide to try this one I hope you'd like it :)
Um, Erika, I haven't read this, but I'm pretty sure it's not a happy ending for everyone(I read that somewhere)... Be prepared:)

Just no.
I'm quitting.
Hey, don't react like that. I'm not 100% sure. Check the ending if it's that big of a deal, and it may not be if the book is that good.I remember reading that kind of comment, and thinking:Dayamn, I'm not sure I want the heartbreak.

Still reading... but.. still thinking... oh but this is so good Mimi...

How I feel... how you feel after having an amazing read? Feel amazing of course ;)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I totally agree with your opinion on this book! The quotes in the images above really do describe the book in its entirety. The fact you pointed out the characters' importance in the book is totally true and I still feel connected with them to this day! Love the pictures.
You said everything perfect! Yes this book definitely hit me hard and it's like you read my mind. Like..seriously I read this and then I was like "Damn this girls a genius"
If you watch John's Fifa 13-14 series, you'll find out about much of what John thinks of Van Houton's ideas and other things that are in the book (like Maslow's hierarchy of needs). He once did a whole episode about how fictional characters are alive. He disagrees with Van Houton pretty strongly.
Great review! I really want to read this book, however my mum read that there was sex in it and *imitates plane crashing* yep. My mum is waaaaay too strict.
Why are all the reviews of this book stupid reactions GIFs and people who clearly love the author regardless of the book?I like John Green, but you feverish Tumblr-using fanboys and girls are being completely unhelpful. I cannot trust any of these reviews.
Great review! Unfortunately I was in the 'miss' category regarding this book, but I'm still looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out :-)
This book is great. Can't put it down. Makes me want to laugh and cry! I also don't want it to end. Can't wait for the movie..
I thoroughly enjoy this book and would love to read it again, it is a beautiful story the only problem I have is that IT BROKE MY HEART!! Many tears were shed and I became attached to many of the characters, definitely my favourite boom by John Green
I'm not sure how this book can be hit or miss when over 670,000 people have rated it at an average of almost 4.5 stars. WHOA.
