▐░ I'm going to use a Joker card here.▐░

Hmm sorry - not this one.

This is better.
WHY?Because yes I finished it but for now I'm completely unable to rate it. It would be a positive rating (3.5 to 5), but what exactly? I'm kicking the ball into touch, sorry. Yes, this book disturbed me that much, and I think a reread will be necessary for me to make a decision.
This no-rating is bugging me. Let's give it a 4. Because I CAN, duh.
Indeed, while the writing was flawless and the book literally unputdownable, I'm not sure how I feel about the treatment of the issue of bullying. Call me a baby girl, but I never, ever, saw people acting like that. Never. To be frank, I was so disturbed that I asked some good friends of mine - who attended different high-schools than me - and the fact is, if of course, unfortunately, I have witnessed bullying actions during my school days, there are some scenes here that I wasn't able to fucking imagine : (view spoiler). That was too much for me. And if in a messed-up way, I can understand why Kara and Regina act like this, Anna the super villain was a freaking alien to me. I don't get it. So take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I'm maybe just a lucky baby girl. I'm serious.
The second thing that disturbed me can be sum up with this question : WHERE. THE. FUCK. ARE. THE. ADULTS? I mean, I get that a lot of ill things can happen without any witnesses, but I was a teenager, I worked in a high-school, and I can't understand how no adult takes action. Never. Where are the parents? The school staff?
Finally, the ending was too rushed for my taste - after all this angst, ending so rapidly was just... anticlimatic.
Don't get fooled, I honestly think that this book is really good and painfully necessary. The fact that I don't get it is perhaps the point here, because it leads me to think about the issue of bullying and to ask myself if I was particularly lucky or just fucking blind. I don't know, and that's what bothers me the most.
❧ Special thanks to the awesome Chelsea for the Birthday Gift ♥ ❧

Well, said, Banana. I'm sorry you couldn't see this stuff happening!! In a way, you're right. But in another...people can be cruel. My enjoyment wasn't hindered lol, even with the adult issue, that I, too, can see. But meh. This was fifty times better than Burn for Burn and even Mean Girls lol. Oh, and damn Courtney Summers and her cliffy-ish endings! :)
If you're a baby girl, I'm a fetus, really. In my school the worst they did was to stop talking to you. Since I don't much about how it is for other people I guess that I didn't question it. AND YES NO ADULTS! WHY?
However while some things in Anna's personality (She was the fucking devil) were taken to the extreme I do think some girls are that fucked up in rl. I promise you don't even want to know o.o
But glad you gave it a read!

I'll reread it for sure and read her other books because I'm really fan of her writing.

LMAO, that was the same in my high-school! I was starting to think that I lived in the Teletubbies >.< It was a really good book, and I adored This is not a test, so I'll read her other books for sure :)

Had the same dilemma. Think I rounded at 5 on account that I liked This is Not a Test so much. Reconsidering, it's more a 3.95.

Yeah, loved the writing style; can't wait reading Please Remain Calm.^^
I agree, this was a tough one to rate. It's the darkest book I've read by her, and very hard to stomach.
I feel it relied too much on the shock factor instead of realism, and the whole story went overboard, to end in such an unbelivable way.
Great review as always!

Thank you Sarah! OMG. You just summed up that I wanted to say and was unable to write in a sentence :D. You're clearer than me :)
I understand you! I was teased a lot when I was little/pre-teens, but I never considered it bullying! Just joking around, and only one year or two ago I was informed that it could be considered bullying. I was like "wow, I was bullied but I never realized it!" I guess I just can't wrap my head around bullying because I never saw the serious stuff happening. Sorry for the rambling hahaha great review :) (loved the pictures!)

Great review, Anna! Now I'm thoroughly interested in regards to what took place to make you that conflicted! Girls can be outright vicious, I saw a lot happen over the years that was just shocking. 0_0

It was a really good book and yeah, I know, I think I was just lucky to live in a world where people just stop talking to you if they're mad at you :/ There wasn't any "Queen B" or super guy in my high-school, no sports team in France so well, no super awesome group of people - I was in a huge high-school but people just... got along I guess :D
I really want to read this now! I hated Thirteen Reasons Why and have been looking for better books with similar subject matter and this one looks right down my alley! Thanks for the honest review.

I loved my years at HS....ahh memories lol...but I never had to deal with bullying. We didn't have a queen b or anything like that too, but still saw a lot of it.
