Lamont is one of the best agents in the Columbus ATF office. He runs all of his cases by-the-book and meticulously. Nothing matters more than the job; not even his boyfriend who gets fed up with being second best and kicks Lamont out of their home. Becoming suddenly homeless and single should be the highlight (or low light) of Lamont's week until he gets a phone call from his former partner Kenny, the spy.
Lamont doesn't trust Kenny, but he can't just hang up the phone when he offers the opportunity to close a case that's been frustrating Lamont for over a year. Over the next few days, the usually solitary Lamont works with Woodhouse, an FBI agent who's not what he seems, and Caleb, a hacker with a wry smile and a distracting mouth, to dismantle a gang of backwoods gun runners in league with the Albanian mob.
Bang & Burn is a mission set in the middle of Private Eye, book 2 in The Spies Who Loved Her series. It's also the first in a sub-series called The Spy Who Loved Him. These erotic romantic suspense novels are all about sexy secret agents and the cunning civilians who bring them to their knees. This book is meant to be read with Private Eye and the romantic story between Lamont and Caleb ends on a cliffhanger to be concluded in their full-length novel, Brush Contact.
Katrina is a seasoned spinster with an active imagination, a love of romcoms and a keenly critical nature. She's a college professor by day who writes romances by...weekend. Right now she also happens to be on summer vacation. She enjoys yogurt, sparkling water and her three cats, who don't appreciate her love.
I can’t believe I’m giving a book without HEA five stars! But here we are. I think I’m ok because I have a feeling these characters are going to get their HEA eventually.
Bang & Burn is not as enjoyable as a stand alone IMO and should be read with the other books to fully appreciate its greatness. Getting to read about the operation from the last book from Lane and Lamont’s perspective revealed some new information that continued to build their world and didn’t feel redundant.
I’m falling more in love with Chanté. She is such a scene stealer! Even when characters are just talking about her:
Most people didn’t understand Chanté. They often took her for granted and let themselves be distracted by her chubby face and bright eyes or her flirtatious personality and wide hips. They used those parts of her personality or physical presentation to box her in as a chipper nymphomaniac. And it wasn’t that they were necessarily wrong, it was just that Chanté was so much more.

Oooooh, I loved this. Some readers will probably argue about the ending and if it really is a romance since there is no HEA, and no real HFN either, not in the sense traditional romance defines those terms.
To me though? It was a HFN. Both characters are kind of happy with how things end. Or at least they know that how things end is how it has to be for now. The connection between them just needed more time and space, but the foundation is right there. There is so much possibility, and the time they do spend together is wonderful for both of them. I loved it, everything about it.
Part of it is how much I adored both MCs, especially Lamont. He is a complicated man, with so many feelings and so many ways in which he is incredibly hard on himself. I wanted to hug him so much, or at least grab his hands and tell him it’s okay. And I could’ve spent hours and hours more in his head. I adored him, I felt with him and I was so invested in his life, his heartbreak and his case, I read the whole book in one go.
I cannot wait to revisit these two, the release of Brush Contact cannot come fast enough, I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED. That is all.
This book is so wildly unrealistic that you just have to suspend all belief. I mean how are you going to hookup in the middle of an interrogation or bring an oozie on a back road. Nonetheless just have fun with it because Lane is just a cowboy being charming and reckless. Kenny is a doll, Caleb is a sweetie pie, and we get a Chante cameo. Lamont is still an emotional mess but I can't be expected to love everyone in a book.
This was a lot of fun to read! Just a note Calen and Lamont don't get their HEA juuuust yet but trust me you wanna still get into this one. We reunite with our fave Lane and we get a brief cameo from his wife and gf too ;) Loved seeing these characters from the previous books.
Lamont and Caleb had that chemistryyyy oh yessss. Loved that for me cuz Katrina Jackson always does this right. So they get up to some spy stuff and I need a move or something for this entire series because it's really so fun and sexy.
Alsooooo we get a lil bit of my girl Chante in here too and her story is up next and I cannot wait!
Lamont is a real heartbreaker. It made me sad how down he was on himself and how easy it was for him to pick apart every mistake he’s made and turn it into a fatal character flaw. Poor baby reminded me too much of me with how he’s incapable of giving himself a break. I love him.
The relationship between Lamont and Caleb unfolds in a manner that I don’t usually root for: insta-lust and no HEA/HFN. But it almost needed to happen this way for the story to work; we need to know they felt something strong and significant, and we need to believe it will last when they do get their ending.
Katrina Jackson is always one of my favorite authors, and I love the shenanigans of this series in particular. I’m looking forward to seeing Caleb work through his stuff and get to a place where he’s ready to be in a relationship and trust someone. I’m also looking forward to more of Lamont and his figuring out some work-life balance. I cannot wait to see these two find their way back together cuz I just know it’s going to be so good! And that final line! Oof, I need Álvaro’s story with his (ex?) wife, cuz I love messy characters and relationships like that!
I liked this book second to His Only Valentine and I'm surprised with that actually. Lamont and Caleb really had that chemistry and I just want them to be together, okay. I liked that the characters were the front and center here instead of the mission because we was able to connect with Lamont's feelings and situation. I can't wait to read the book where Caleb and Lamont finally gets their HEA.
I enjoy reading about all of these characters. This book kind of dragged, though. It’s not the page-turning quick read I’ve grown accustomed to. Plus, I started getting the guys and their stories mixed up towards the middle: they seemed to blur together.
After reading the epilogue, I feel hopeful that the series will end in a satisfying way. Fingers crossed.
This was gorgeous. It's something of a Friends For Now ending, but very realistically and thoughtfully done, as it builds up the characters and the storyline to where they need to be for future stories.
The drama in the plotline was excellent, but it was the characterisation that really held me tight on every page.
I can't wait to see where the story goes next. I hope we finally get to Chante and Asif. That said Kenny so owes Lamont an apology. I really liked Lamont and I hope we are more of him. I also want a better physical description of Sanchez.
I loved Lamont and Caleb’s story and I’m so glad there is more coming. It was also nice to get a hint of Chanté and Asif! I need more, but I can be a good girl and wait for it.
Spies and sexy times by Katrina Jackson! Yay! They aren't ready for their HEA, so you should know that going in. I want more of this world as soon as possible...
Ok, this one doesn't end with a HFN/HEA and I want that part of the story. It reads a lot like an episode in a tv series. It's full of action and lust and I want more.
Usually a non HEA ending would grind my gears but I am just too interested in this couple to be mad and the timing would have been off. I may go back to Kenny and Maya

Even though Lamont and Caleb don't have their happy ending yet, there's a lot of promise in this book. And I did love them, all. I am so enjoying this series!
Im so mad I let this book sit on my dang on kindle, lols. But whewee chile, K. Jackson does it again. I loved this book. Ugh, Lamont and Caleb were just cute on page. I would have perferred more building of the relationship between them on page but with all the spy and cop s**t goin on, I get it. Still, highly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to get the rest of these two story.
I devoured this in big gulps and couldn't put it down. It was a really fun read! I fell really hard for Caleb and Lamont, and am looking forward to them getting an HEA in a later book; this felt right, kinda like a prequel for that, because the timing was off. I really liked that the author honored that need, to wait for the right time. I liked seeing glimpses of the characters I know and love, especially Chante. It was fun to see Lane go off on his own on a mission. I also really liked the way we got to see Lamont reacting to all the ways his relationships at work go sideways; I think sometimes in spy stories we don't get to see that, and it made me really feel for him.
I don't think this would stand alone well, it's best to read at least book 1 & 2 first. I am so glad that this series will continue for several more books; I love it, and will definitely be reading the next ones.
