"Innocent blood bleeds reddest of all...” ~Adika...goddess of injustice and pain *** Mordecai is a psychopath with secrets. Miriam is a psychology student with faith. Both want the same thing-- to get into each other's minds. But where Miriam’s intentions are pure, Mordecai’s are full of sadistic games.
Mordecai lures Miriam into the dark recesses of his psyche, eager to use every means to imprison her in his world. Once he does, he will stop at nothing until he owns every part of her.
I’m a husband and author, and I may be a little religious about both. I like writing hot sex and encapsulating it in the delicate white silk of devotion, commitment, and psychotic obsession.
I have read up to book 7/8. My gawd Lucian Bane reminds me Every Time what I adore about being addicted to reading. Mordecai & Miriam knocked my socks off. I Love them and I am Preturbed by them. Hahahaha! I want Miriam to be ‘badder’ and Mordecai to be ‘gooder’. Haha. Read the series. You’ll see what I mean. 🔥🔥🔥
*TOTALLY UNIQUE STORY THAT SUCKS YOU IN AND WON’T LET GO!!
Mordecai and Miriam are not the typical characters normally found in an erotic thriller. Mordecai is a rigid rule enforcer who has a lot of strange quirks and (devilish) kinks and he loves to wager on everything. Miriam is a naive, devout Christian, college student who has no clue what she’s getting herself into when she accepts Mordecai’s offer for free room and board. They agree to study each other for the purpose of proving their thesis statements.
That all sounds fairly tame until those characters’ story is placed in the skillful hands of Lucian Bane and then all HELL BREAKS LOOSE. And the FIRES START BURNING and the story takes off in directions that are impossible to predict. It becomes extremely difficult to even put the book down because you HAVE TO KNOW what comes next. JUST BUCKLE UP AND ENJOY THE RIDE!! It’s unforgettable.
I can’t even put into words how I felt reading this book series. It was some of the most beautiful and thought-provoking writing I’ve read to date. Everything about it was so well thought out and amazingly written. It was dark and incredibly intelligent. Miriam and Mordecai are deep, damaged and smart characters. They’re so different from one another yet it’s so easy to fall in love with both of them and root for their relationship. If you like a little horror and love a lot of romance... I’m talking the best romance out there, then you’ll adore this series.
From the opening chapter, you learn that Mordecai is slightly... off-center and Miriam is slightly... naive. Both are postgraduate students from the same college and, as fate would have it, they both have something the other needs for their thesis study. So you'll begin to think that this will is a new adult romance between the OCD guy and the nerdy girl, however, this is Lucian Bane you're dealing with and reading so don't be surprised when things veer off the beaten track and head into murkier, more dangerous waters. Mordecai draws Miriam into his games, ones he has meticulously laid out, only to realize that Miriam isn't as clueless as she appears forcing him to step up his diabolical campaign. This is a twisted tale of power and control, healing and faith. Of what happens when light and dark clash. Does the light win out and banish the darkness, exposing all of its secrets or does the dark overwhelm the light, leaving a treacherous trail to follow?
Bane's characters are complicated from the outset. On the surface, Mordecai appears to be a man of the world, respectful even when he disagrees but with particular quirks and odd behaviors. The story progression, combined with his inner musings reveals a nefarious personality with a cunning, calculated plan. Miriam's seemingly naive, hapless persona conceals a core strength borne of past hurts and steadfast faith. She relies on God and belief in herself to lead her where she is supposed to be. Mordecai and Miriam are evenly matched in strength and intelligence, a counterpart for each other.
Sadistic Games focuses entirely on the two leads as they battle to learn each other's secrets and get to the heart of who they are. This is an erotic thriller so they are no shortage of heat filled scenes, nor will you be disappointed in the unique plot twists and turns as Bane puts his characters through a delightfully devious tale. There are points that will make you gasp and read from between your fingers and points where you will think you have a handle on what's happening when you really don't but at no point will you want to put it down.
Unlike anything I've read before... As the title suggests, this is not a light, easy read. This series is filled with vivid detail and the plot is fast paced. It will challenge you and make you think, but it will also take you through the whole spectrum of emotions while you fall in love with Mordecai and Miriam. Rest assured though that the ending is totally worth every minute spent reading and that you will find Lucian Bane's writing as addictive as I do.
WOW!!! I did not see this ending coming!!! Absolutely blown away!! Fabulous job Lucian. It has definitely been a wild ride and back with Mordie and Miriam. Quite the rollercoaster. Absolutely loved it and once again Lucian brought the F'n BOOM!!
The Sadistic Games series by Lucian Bane is an erotic thriller that had this reader not wanting to put the book down. I was fascinated by the banter between the two main characters, Miriam and Mordecai. The unique situation that brings them together sets the stage for a complicated, heated, and dangerous game that they play with one another to unravel each other’s core beliefs. As Miriam and Mordecai slowly peel back the layers of what lies beneath, this author deliciously reveals to readers how these two people can overcome the obstacles to their happiness. They must trust themselves and one another if they are to survive the demons that threaten their very existence. Sadistic Games is a story full of deceit, betrayal, life & death as well as redemption and unconditional love. I definitely recommend this book series!
One of the best authors, this story will keep you turning the pages. I love Mordecai and Miriam, the relationship is very in depth and as you read the layers get pulled back. I will be honest at times they both drove me crazy, but that's what i loved about Lucian's work. I go from wanting to throw my kindle to OMG I love these two give me more. The Cat and Mouse game they play with each other is intense.
His work always draws me in and doesn't let go until I am done, and then of course I want more. Loved this series and urge readers to give it a try, they won't be disappointed.
From start to finish this book holds your soul hostage and doesn’t let go. I laughed, I cried, and at one point I got so angry that I threw my phone across the room.
Miriam is a force and possibly an angel while Mordecai is a sociopath and possibly the devil Their chemistry is off the charts The story is amazing
Lucian Bane has completed his Sadistic Games Series and I must say it has been worth the wait! Mordecai and Miriam have amazing chemistry that explodes off the pages. The way Mordecai and Miriam tested out their experiments on each other at times are twisted and other times are ice melting hot. There was a time I wasn’t sure who was more of a sadist. Miriam and Mordecai each gave their best and worst to each other. I don’t want to give anything away so I am just going to say that each character evolved greatly in the story and I believe true fans of Lucian Bane will be able to appreciate the plot twist and what happens to the characters at the end of this book.
A Sadist & A Good Christian Girl Meet, Bond, Have Sex Over Their Opposing Views
* Spoilers*
First read by this author
I don’t know where to begin.
. A Dark, Debauched Romance with a fair slice of religious instruction thrown in for good measure?!?
I read the whole series of ‘ Sadistic Games’ in pretty much three days.
I found it to be intriguing, interesting, and perplexing.
Mordecai is a sadist. He’s had it confirmed by THREE different doctors.
He’s come to terms with his lot, & the fact that he will, one day, find the trigger that will push him further over the edge. He is an extremely smart man, he has self studied his own behaviour for YEARS.
Correlating the data, while making wagers about which way his life will go.
Side note : He was raised by a coven of sadists, & has joined his own small group of sadists (or want to be sadists) ‘The 12 Knights of Adika’
Then, Miriam Grace Beckett crosses his path. Both are in the same psyche class, & he is playing the long game, watches her, studying her for 3 years before he makes his move. Offering the struggling Miriam room, & board in exchange for “help with studies.”
This will be interesting, right? Nice sweet, Christian girl, he plans to break & make her his own personal play toy.
The light to his dark.
Cue the battle of the wills as these two argue about all things, but specifically about religion. While Mordi, get under Miriam skin (literally screwing her into submission)
Miriam becomes psychologist to Mordi, underlying condition, digging further into his psyche. (This part fascinated me considering the scatter brained, introverted, Miriam, could barely string together a proper PAPER before moving in with Mordi,)
Miriam believes that God is at the wheel, & will always lead her in the right direction, praying constantly.
She is completely convinced that she can prove to Mordecai that God is real, & can deliver with the miracles, helping him come to terms with his darker personality traits.
Mordecai is determined to debauch, debase, degrade Miriam, bringing her over to the dark side. Having her submit to him completely. After all he believes
“Her God was the master sadist leading her on that leash.”
And HE is determined to make himself her ‘new’ God. She is to worship him & only him.
All this take place while the two are trying to avoid the Devil’s Dungeon who want Miriam as some kind of Christian prize to sacrifice.
AND! Discovering more information about Mordecai’s dark background, which may go a long way to explaining his personality traits.
This series was interesting, as it debated the opposing religious views of of both Mordecai & Miriam, as the two began to influence each other’s behaviour.
However, it was precisely all the religious ‘ talk’ primary the self righteous Miriam, that put me at odds with this story.
I found her unwavering conviction, ‘in-your-face’ ‘holier then thou’ attitude annoying. At times I just wanted to punch the smugness away.
I was TOTALLY on team Mordecai, as hoped he would show up her religious beliefs for what (I believe) they are, fairy stories, made up by a bunch of self serving men.
But Nope.
Miram gets everything her way.
Mordi, gets analysed out of his BRAIN by M, every time he has an episode.
‘Shall we have a session’ (code for SEX session - ie: D sucking, finger and ball playing,)
“Shall we talk about what just happened.” (Same as above) Not to mention she never, NEVER lets. Him out of her sights.
Then, as the story progresses & we eventually find out more about Mordi, life (courtesy of Miriam’s probing) we find…. Dah! Dah!
He has a long lost family (I. Kid. You. Not) as they discover his Mom was kidnapped by the evil coven BECAUSE….SHE WAS A CHRISTIAN!
Just like Miriam is. WOW!
So, THATS why he was SOOO attracted to her. HE HAS A BIT OF AN OEDIPUS COMPLEX.
With Miriam’s gentle persuasion, he eventually agrees to meet his family, (a father, older brother, two sisters) & wouldn’t you just know, they are, gosh darn it, just the coolest bunch of God fearing folk you ever did see, that instantly loved the ever lovin, crap out of him. All being witnessed by a simpering Miriam silently patting herself on the back for a job well done pushing Mordi to meet them. (smug B)
Aaargh!
This is the point where I realised, this book has now turned, & is going down the well trodden HEA road.
So disappointed.
When was the coven members going to show up?
When was Miriam pious resolve going to finally be relinquished?
Just when I thought things are turning
We get another MIRACLE with them surviving a life threatening accident.( trope)
WTF!
I basically was hanging in here throughout the WHOLE book waiting for the self righteous B to fall on her face & I was denied that pleasure
Aagh!
But the worst was yet to come, with another typical trope HEA
Basically setting things up for the next book.
‘Keep reading for gushy hormonal Miriam as she tries to analyse Mordi from seeking his revenge. While connecting with his new super religious family’
This series is character driven So I'll just describe my view of the characters.
MORDECAI:
1) I liked Mordecai. He wasn't really a sadist according to my analysis... More like a violent sociopath with severe OCD. He admitted it himself....that he didn't get any pleasure from hurting others, he just didn't have any emotions towards things. He was calculative and lacked empathy and only did things to get what he needed. He even killed animals to dissect and understand them...not for "pleasure".
2)His mindset about wagers and calculating every move and outcome was intriguing. And I loved how he strived to "break" Miriam by employing different methods (like breaking her sexuality rules, hypocritical ideology or even her faith) and not just the regular old sexual torture. He was into MIND GAMES, and I am all for that shit!!😈🖤
MIRIAM:
1) The heroine however, was the reason for those 2 stars. She absolutely ruined this book for me.
Note: First of all, the whole Religion, God and Faith thing wasn't for me. I have seen people using or abusing religion as a weapon to hurt, control or brainwash others too much to believe in it, ..... especially the whole Pre-marital sex, or sex with multiple partners is a sin thing. Yeah, definitely not for me. 😪 And this book had it in spades which really ruined this experience for me.
2) Miriam.....she is legit Nuts. As in batshit crazy and not the good kind like Mordecai. She's, like Mordecai pointed out, hypocritical and certifiable.
And I want to mention that one particular scene is the reason for my strong hatred for her. Let me tell you what she did there. She wants Mordecai sexually but she also claims to be a pure Christian women who'd only have sexual relations with her husband. So what she does is....She, in her own mind, chooses Mordecai as her husband. Then engages in sexual acts with him "to help him". Meaning, she believes they are married even though Mordecai doesn't even know he's her husband much less a boyfriend/fuck buddy. This somehow justifies her having sex with him even though they are not married. That was so damn ridiculous, I don't know whether to be dumbfounded or laugh at her.
Basically, she is manipulating her own beliefs and rules to get what she wants but she hates the fact that Mordecai does the same openly and to other people. Plus she doesn't even want to listen when Mordecai calls her out on her hypocritical behaviour. She still believes she's keeping her beliefs intact ...blah blah, fucking blah. I LOVED THE FACT THAT MORDECAI CALLED HER OUT ON IT. But she still denied it to death🤦🤦. She's as bad as Mordecai if not more. Atleast that psychopathic guy proudly accepts that all he does is for himself and his selfish needs.
3) She wanted to "heal" Mordecai. She believes that God had put her in Mordecai's path so that she could bring empathy in him by loving him. Empathy in a person diagnosed as a Psychopath!!! I don't want to offend anyone's religious beliefs but for me and myself.....The very notion of this thought makes me itch to call bullshit. 🤷
4) There's a point in the story where she doesn't want to do anything sexual with Mordecai but she DOES; reminding herself that HE'S HER HUSBAND. I can't even!
At last, I just want to say that the dark parts of the book had me excited but the dive in religious aspects was not something I could handle. So this series wasn't for me.
It wasn't even gray if I consider my dark books scale so there's also that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was an amazingly twisted tale about Mordecai, a psychopath, and his obsession with a Christian woman, Miriam. Mordecai is determined to break her faith, but he's in for one heck of a ride.
This is my second Lucian Bane "book". As with the first one I read, it has incredibly steamy sex, but more importantly, it is a psychological journey for both of our main characters. Told from a dual perspective, you do know what Mordecai is up to, and the great lengths that Miriam goes to in her quest to help him. I read the complete series because I knew I couldn't handle reading just a segment at a time, and while this does come to a conclusion, there is definitely an opening to continue Mordecai and Miriam's tale.
Ok, I'll start of by saying you're either going to love this or hate it enough you won't finish it. Don't read if you actually have a list of triggers. I'm not going to take the space to name them all. That was your warning.
But for the those that love it... you're going to loooooove it. You're going to hate that you love it, and realize how mentally f'd up you are that you love it, but you're going to want to spend every spare alone (or maybe not if you have a good poker face) moment absorbing all of this perfect, disturbing, but so damn hot, story. You're going to wish it was you, then turn around and slap yourself for wanting to be the person that's experienced all of this. Just yes. Read it.
Awesome, different, funny, quirky, endearing, engaging, heart-pounding, perfectly twisted, hot, hot, HOT!! I started this erotic thriller series when the first book was released in 2018. Each time a new one came out I would re-read the previous one(s). I just finished re-reading the box set for the third time. It never gets old, it never ceases to grab me emotionally and physically and treat me to an intoxicating ride. With Lucian Bane, you can ALWAYS expect the unexpected!! 1-CLICK now!!! You won't be sorry!!
Wow what a roller coaster of a thriller! I don't know how he does it! Every book series I read by Lucian Bane is awesome! So many different personalities ! The characters in this series ... All I can say is talk about mental anguish! Brave brave soul is Miriam! She is a true believer for sure. Mordecai holy moly! Sounds like a dream! His issues are huge! But thankfully Mr. Lucian Bane can write so well you can't help but fall in love with him enough that all you can do is pray Miriam can save him!
I've read the 1st 7 & this series is trippy & INTENSE. It is a battle of a woman's (Miriam) belief in the power of faith vs a sadistic psychopath (Mordecai). She is voluntarily in his home & control & as the story progresses the battle grows more intense as the two use their intelligence as weapons. Miriam to save & Mordecai to break. Like I say: Intense, but not a typical romance. I am loving it because it makes me THINK.
WOW what a ride this series is, Lucian at his best, just on the right side of utter darkness, Mordi and Miriam have intense chemistry, they each want to win the battle. This story is hard to read in certain places as it draws you into the darkness. It was well worth the wait, I couldn't put it down, reading into the small hours, and what an ending, I hear there's going to be a conclusion, so can't wait to hear more from them. well done Mr Bane, keep on doing what you do best :)
Wow Mr. Lucían Bane …. Again if I thought I loved the beginning of Butterfly and Altas from your start with Royal Bastards MC I am debating now . Mordecai has stolen my heart, Miriam his life line my was of saying. The whole debate of God, verses science, verses the universe, verses proof. The past , trauma, coping, remembering…. I could go on and on but I just don’t do spoilers…… amazing can’t wait for the next book …… Sassy Pants Letti 😈💋
The first 2/3 had me in a chokehold. I love how unpredictable and intelligent Mordecai was and how that contrasted to Miriam’s empathy and strong faith. However, in the last third everything became very repetitive and this element of unpredictability was lost. The smut also suffered the same fate, there was not a lot of dynamic and emotions in it. It sometimes seemed a bit clinical. So up until 75% I would say it deserves 5 stars, after that 3. Still a great read so thank you Lucian Bane!
A little dark, a little twisted, and a whole lotta hotness..
A perfect combination of lunacy and faith.. twisted with a dark past these two characters come together in a way that can only be described as destined.. (my opinion). This author can write the emotions and bring you to the edge and keep you there until the end. And the naughtiness.. I’ll just say “Whew!”
Wow couldnt put this set down once I started it. This was a wild ride from the start right to the finish. Miriam who us so devoted as a chritian yet had the forsight as a Dr to see Mordicaifor what he truly was just a broken man that needed her to love him and be there through all he threw at her. Wiw csnt wait for more on this couple and where they ho from here.
Brilliant series. Mordicai and Miriam will drag you down the proverbial rabbit hole. Throughout this series each of them have grown. This is a must read series. So many twists and turns and you never know what's coming next.
WOW! WOW! WOW! This story totally captivated me from the beginning to the very end! For anyone that has any Biblical knowledge, there are underlying Biblical meanings throughout this story. So many twists and turns! It isn’t often a book brings me to tears, however, this one did and I loved it!
I couldn't put this book down. I kept thinking "she's nuts to let him treat her like that". There was so many mental red flags with both of them, I didn't know if either of them would survive in the end.
If I could give this 10 stars I absolutely would. The dynamics of this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Absolutely amazing. Mr. Bane you have dont it to me again. Love your work.
