Richard was such an odd character that he probably wouldn't acknowledge credit but be off doing something else. ;)(less)

Yes, I prefer to stick to the historical in my straight historical romances, of which Lord Meath is one. In my "magic" romances, I add psychic elements that might suit the era ("science" didn't really exist in the Georgian era of the earliest books, so it was just as woo-woo as psychics!) but I still try to keep history accurate. But you ask specifically about "words, dialogue, phrases" and that's where ambiguity emerges. My characters aren't likely to say "hot damn," since that wasn't in usage, but because they're MY characters, if I choose to have one say "bloody hell" in mixed company, that's my choice, even though it's not socially correct. There are words and phrases that have changed meaning over the centuries, so if I use the historically accurate term, it's likely to confuse the modern reader. A writer has to make a lot of choices when it comes to words, and I'm likely to come down on the side of clarity for the reader over accuracy. I hope that answers your question!(less)

Vacation Needed from Vacation!

We took a marvelously relaxing cruise of Puget sound, meeting up with Mary Jo Putney and her husband to discuss writerly subjects and just enjoying the scenery and a wine tasting or two. The food was scrumptious, the weatheramazinglyperfect, and the company wasnt to be sneezed at. I always dream of not having to fix meals or do housekeeping for days on end...

And then I come home to so

“I did not have any magnificent jewels to give you, but I hoped you would understand that I would give you the world if I could.”
Patricia Rice, The Wicked Wyckerly

“He didn't want to hear Cade's fury. He wasn't ready yet for whatever Cade would decide. Travis had been on his own since he was fifteen. Lily and their son and Juanita were as close as he had ever come to family since then. Even the little brat, Serena, had carved a place in his heart. He wasn't made like Cade. He longed for the warmth of human emotion. He even missed that old rascal Ephraim. He didn't care about the damned land or the cattle or whatever else it was that drove men to fight. Travis required Juanita's shy adoration, Roy's admiring phrases, Lily's rare laughter. Ricardo could have the damned hacienda. Travis wanted the women and children. He was afraid Cade wouldn't think the same. These past weeks had made it obvious that Cade had a single-minded fascination with the Spanish family and the hacienda he had been denied all these years. When he was coherent, he had spoken of the changes he would make, the plans he had for that mesquite-studded acreage. When he was fevered, he had cursed Ricardo, cursed every obstacle that had ever stood in his way, and sworn oaths that made Travis shiver. Behind that stoic facade lay a lifetime of hate and longing. He didn't want to think about the decision that Cade had to make now. Lily and her small farm had only been an afterthought in that lifetime. When”

message 2: by Tammy

Tammy Hi Pat -- Here are some of the authors I have been reading that are interesting and funny.

1) Jana Deleon's "Miss Fortune" series. She up to book 20, so you have a lot to read here. These stories always get me out of my head, because at there heart they are about friendship and how it can come in many different forms.

2) Stella Bixby's "Rylie Cooper Mystery" series. She is actually ending this series in October with book 7, but it is a fun mystery series that makes you keep coming back for more.

3) Chelsea Field's "An Eat, Pray, Die Humorous Mystery" series. There are currently 6 books in the series. These are just quirky and fun mysteries because the concept is not something we would really think could happen. So it takes you out of your head for a bit.

Eileen thanks for the add :)
