What happened in the 'Dancing with the Stars' season 34 premiere?

The season premiere was highlighted by some impressive moves from this season's stars, including conservationist Robert Irwin's stunt of jumping off a car alongside his pro partner, Witney Carson. Judge Derek Hough called the performance "probably the best first dance I’ve ever seen on this show."

Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles also wowed in her dance to Beyoncé's "Break My Soul" with her partner Ezra Sosa. Other highlights included Alix Earle and pro Val Chmerkovskiy using a ring of fire while dancing to Britney Spears' "Circus," and actress Danielle Fishel and pro Pasha Pashkov performing an emotional tango to “Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson, a meaningful performance over a year after Fishel revealed a breast cancer diagnosis.

Among other dances, Gleb Savchenko and Hilaria Baldwin also impressed with their Cha Cha to “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez.

The night concluded with Irwin and Carson at the top of the night's judge's leaderboard, tied with Whitney Leavitt and pro Mark Ballas. At the bottom of the board were Andy Richter and pro Emma Slater, along with actor Corey Feldman and pro Jenna Johnson.

Longtime judge Carrie Ann Inaba was absent from the ballroom for the premiere due to illness.
