While they might be mortal enemies on screen, Dr. Frankenstein and his creature are calling a truce when it comes to awards campaigning.
Netflix will run Frankenstein's Oscar Isaac, who plays the eponymous scientist, in the lead acting races, while Jacob Elordi — the film's soulful monster — will stick to supporting, Gold Derby has exclusively learned.
Although the Guillermo del Toro film is essentially a two-hander — the first half told from the perspective of Isaac's Frankenstein and the second half from the point of view of Elordi's character — the final decision will keep the actors from going head-to-head at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and other upcoming awards, and potentially splitting votes.
Already a strong contender in below-the-line races — with predicted Oscar nominations in cinematography, costume design, production design, makeup and hairstyling, and score, per Gold Derby data — Frankenstein has seen its prospects tick up in the marquee categories as the creature feature arrived in theaters for spooky season.
Frankenstein now sits at No. 10 among forecasted Best Picture nominees, while Elordi (No. 8, supporting actor) and del Toro (No. 6 for adapted screenplay, No. 12 for director) are also hovering in the nomination zone.

The film's chances are also promising at the Golden Globes, with Frankenstein tracking towards a Best Film Drama nod (No. 6), and Isaac (No. 7, drama actor), Elordi (No. 8, supporting actor), and del Toro (No. 12, director) all possessing a legitimate shot at nominations.

Frankenstein begins streaming Nov. 7 on Netflix.
