Caught Stealing
Zoe Kravitz and Austin Butler in Caught Stealing
Sony Pictures

Austin Butler finds big trouble in the Big Apple with Caught Stealing, the latest from director Darren Aronofsky.

Sony just released the first trailer for the upcoming crime caper, and here's everything you need to know.

What's the story?

Butler stars as Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball hotshot, who volunteers to cat-sit for his punk-rocker neighbor (played by The Crown's Matt Smith) and winds up with a lot more trouble than just scooping out the litter box.

Soon, he's ensnared in a criminal enterprise involving a United Nations of gangsters and many, many guns.

Who stars in Caught Stealing?

In addition to Butler and Smith, Caught Stealing stars Zoë Kravitz as Hank's bartending girlfriend, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), and Carol Kane.

Who's behind the scenes?

Hot off of the Oscar-winning The Whale, Aronofsky is returning to a grimy story more in the vein of his early work, like Requiem for a Dream.

Charlie Huston wrote the script, which is adapted from his novel of the same name. Originally published in 2004, Caught Stealing was the first of three books featuring Hank, who went onto appear in 2005's Six Bad Things and 2006's A Dangerous Man.

When does it open?

Caught Stealing hits theaters on August 29.
