Alert Franklin is a mass notification system. This system allows Franklin County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service to send emergency messages to your phone, email or both. Our Community Emergency Response Team is always looking for individuals who are willing to volunteer and assist our community in times of crisis. Franklin County Emergency Management uses volunteers for events, activations, and emergency operations. Our community members have a wealth of experience and training. We needs members like you.
Special needs shelters are intended to provide, to an extent, an environment that can sustain an individual's level of health. If a person is medically stable but needs help with basic tasks or uses an electronic medical device and has no other evacuation options, they should pre-register for a special needs shelter.
If you are resident of Franklin County and you currently do not have transportation, you may register for transportation assistance in the event of a storm. During a hurricane that requires a mandatory evacuation of the county, Franklin County Emergency Management will provide transportation for residents to get to a shelter.

This is a reminder that Franklin County is forecasted to experience freezing temperatures this weekend, beginning on January 31, 2026, and lasting until Monday, February 2, 2026. Due to wind chill factors, it may feel as though temperatures are in the teens. While daytime highs may rise above freezing, nighttime and early morning temperatures will remain below freezing. Please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and that of your family. To help ensure you and your home stay protected, please adhere to the following precautionary measures:
- Check on elderly relatives and neighbors to ensure they have effective ways to stay warm in the coming days as temperatures drop. Verify that their heating devices are functioning properly to prevent fire hazards.
- Bring pets indoors early. If you have outdoor pets, provide them with options to escape the cold. Offering warm blankets and bedding will help keep them cozy if bringing them inside isn’t possible.
- Protect cold-sensitive pipes with appropriate coverings or by dripping water.
- Protect cold-sensitive plants and vegetation with appropriate coverings.
- Ensure that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order.
- Never leave heating sources unattended.
- Keep a safe distance between all flammable materials and heaters.
- Be cautious not to overload electrical circuits with too many appliances.
