A recent upsurge in the growth of Volleyball in the Dominican Republic is a testament to the popularity of the sports and the significance of the role of the FIVB Development Centre there.
Since its opening in 1997 the Centre has been a source of development for coaches, referees, statisticians, sports administrators and medical doctors throughout the NORCECA zone. They really have kept the ball flying.
Nelson Ramirez, Director of the Centre located in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Park in Santo Domingo, says that all the achievements are in a big part thanks to the support obtained from FIVB and the NORCECA Confederation.
The Centre has hosted seminars for coaches of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, as well as a Refereeing Courses and Technical Seminars which were attended by an average of 20 participants each time.
Prof. Ramirez said. “We are very proud of the Centre because we have been able to improve the quality of our sport in the region. Our classrooms have hosted the most prestigious technicians of the FIVB.”
