A Thessaloniki appeals court on Tuesday upheld a four-year prison sentence for a 29-year-old delivery worker found guilty in the death of a 50-year-old pedestrian he punched during an August 2023 argument.
The victim had criticized the rider for driving his motorcycle on the pedestrian street of Agias Sophias in central Thessaloniki.
The Mixed Jury Court of Appeals convicted him of causing fatal bodily harm, reduced from the initial charge of intentional fatal injury. Judges recognized three mitigating factors: lawful prior conduct, sincere remorse, and that he was provoked by the victim’s behavior. The man had first received a five-year sentence and was jailed, then released pending appeal.
