UN climate talks yield no binding deal

November 22, 2025

Brazil's COP30 presidency pushed through a compromise climate deal that would boost finance for poor nations coping with global warming but that omitted any mention of the fossil fuels driving it.

The COP30 climate summit in Brazil ended with applause but mixed feelings.

Delegates from nearly 200 nations agreed to triple funding for developing countries to tackle climate change. Yet the deal avoided any commitment to phasing out fossil fuels, opposed by major exporters like Saudi Arabia and Russia as well as India and China.

European leaders called the outcome modest, but stressed global cooperation must continue.
