A coalition of farm, ranch and consumer groups -- including R-CALF USA, the Consumer Federation of America, and the Coalition for a Prosperous America -- has launched a petition urging the White House and Congress to restore Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (MCOOL) for beef. Do you support their call to "Label Our Beef?"

Yes -- I support restoring MCOOL. American ranchers and consumers deserve to know where their beef comes from, and multinational meatpackers shouldn't be able to sell foreign beef without disclosing its origin.
Yes, but only with a plan to address WTO trade risk. MCOOL was repealed in 2015 precisely because Canada and Mexico threatened more than $1 billion in retaliatory tariffs. Congress needs a strategy before reinstating it.
I support the goal, but a petition isn't the right path. MCOOL needs to move through the farm bill or standalone legislation -- not White House pressure.
No -- the voluntary Product of USA rule is sufficient. The updated USDA standard already ensures that label is meaningful; mandatory labeling adds cost and regulatory burden without enough added benefit.
No -- restoring MCOOL isn't worth the trade retaliation risk. The WTO ruled against it before, and putting U.S. agricultural exports in the crosshairs of retaliatory tariffs is too high a price.
