Managing accounts for deceased users
Last updated on
14 January 2021
It is always a difficult time for the community when one of our own has passed away. This page outlines the steps we take to manage the account of a deceased user.
When Drupal Association staff are informed:
- We will take reasonable steps to verify the situation, taking the utmost care for colleagues, coworkers, friends, and family of the individual.
- We will defer to the individual's next of kin with respect to how they want the individual's user account to be handled.
In general we will recommend keeping the account in place on Drupal.org, so that the individual's contributions continue to be recognized. We will take the following steps with the account:
- Update the account bio with any message provided by the next of kin
- Remove SSH keys from the account
- Remove elevated roles/privileges from the account
- Disable the contact form
- Lock the account
- Unsubscribe the user's email accounts from any communications channels
- Suspend any automatic recurring payments that may be in place, such as for Drupal Association membership
For users with elevated roles or responsibilities
- We will remove the elevated roles.
- We will notify any co-maintainers or fellow members of volunteer groups.
Our deepest sympathies are with the friends, family, coworkers, and colleagues of any individual the community has lost. The Drupal community has been and always will be about people first.
