Why do we collect data about users?
We collect data about users, both individually and in aggregate, for a few reasons:
- To better understand the audience that visits Drupal.org, and the users that register.
- To allow users to identify themselves within the community, across several axes:
- Personal
- Professional
- etc

On Sign Up
When registering an account on Drupal.org we ask for a limited set of information, some public, and some private:
- Public:
- Username
- First name
- Last name
- Country
- Organization
- Job Title
- Private:
- Password
- Self-assessment of your membership in the 'Big 8/Big 10' underrepresented communities.
- To help users decide which fields to select, here are some examples for each option
- Ability - (e.g: behavioural, cognitive, emotional, physical)
- Age - (e.g: subject to age discrimination within your profession, culture, or community)
- Ethnicity - (e.g: Of ethnic identity that is a minority in your professional field, community or country of residence, or suffers historical discrimination)
- Gender (e.g: women in a male dominated industry, intersex, agender)
- Gender identity (e.g: transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, etc)
- Race - (e.g: Of racial descent that is a minority in your professional field, community, or country of residence, or suffers historical discrimination)
- Religion - (e.g: minority religion, non-religious, alternative spirituality)
- Sexual orientation - (e.g: Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Pansexual, Demisexual, etc)
- Socio-economic status/class - (e.g: part of a less-privileged economic class, or socio-economic background, or coming from such a background in the past)
- Learning differences - (e.g: Dyslexia, ADHD, NVLD)
- Family composition - (e.g: Non-traditional family composition, divorced/separated parents, adopted or fostered, victim of abusive relationships, etc)
- None - I do not identify with any of the underrepresented groups above
- Prefer not to answer - If you prefer to not to answer and would like to let us know
- To help users decide which fields to select, here are some examples for each option

Optional Fields in your profile
There are a number of other optional fields in Drupal.org user profiles. These fields include but are not limited to:
- Languages spoken
- Bio
- Gender
- Website, chat service, and social links
- Drupal contributions
- Work history
Most of these additional fields are optional, public fields, allowing members of the community to positively affirm their place and identity within the community. It is our intended purposes that these optional fields empower community members to have a greater voice in how they represent themselves.
