Fallout is back on Prime Video, and it's kicking all sorts of apocalyptic desert ass. As you'll remember, it's the story of Lucy (Ella Purnell), who's been raised in an underground bunker since nuclear war devastated the world above ground.

But the world didn't go away, it just… changed. And above ground there are entire communities of oddballs, ravagers, soldiers and more, all just trying to get by in an environment of desperate want, food shortage and extreme violence. Plus an undead-ish cowboy with no nose.

And this year, there are some new faces in the mix!

Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean

Vault 33 dweller Lucy emerged into the sunshine in season one after her father was kidnapped by raiders. Having been raised from birth in the culture of the bunker, she's somewhat naive and ill-equipped for a savage wasteland peopled by gun-toting desperadoes.

Where you've seen Ella Purnell before

British actor Ella was also the star of Yellowjackets, where she played the captain of the girls' soccer team whose plane crashed in the Canadian woods, forcing them to survive for a year and a half by turning into a cannibal cult. She was also in Sky One's revenge comedy Sweetpea and the Netflix zombie actioner Army of the Dead.

Aaron Moten as Maximus

Maximus is a squire of the Brotherhood of Steel (though masquerading as a Knight), a hi-tech yet medieval military unit that survived the nuclear war. Orphaned aged six and raised by the army, he's in many ways as ill-equipped to deal with the real world as Lucy. But he's much better armed.

Where you've seen Aaron Moten before

It's possible you've seen Moten in the Netflix sitcom Disjointed, playing Kathy Bates' son. He also appeared in Will Smith's Emancipation and the Mark Wahlberg drama Father Stu (about a boxer who became a Catholic priest).

Walton Goggins as The Ghoul

He wasn't always a ghoul (an irradiated human given near-immortality by his nuclear experiences). Cooper Howard was once a cowboy actor and former coldier who became the spokesperson for Vault-tec, the sinister company that built the vaults. He now works as a bounty hunter, able to survive pretty much anything as long as he gets his life-extending drugs.

Where you've seen Walton Goggins before

He's been around since the early '90s, but first made waves in legendary police drama The Shield. Since then, he has played any number of devious, shifty or otherwise reprehensible lowlives in films and shows as diverse as Sons of Anarchy and Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

Recently, he's reached a new level of fame thanks to his turn in The White Lotus as a guy seeking vengeance for what he believed was the death of his father.

Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean

Hank is Lucy's father and was overseer of their vault, being a former executive in Vault-Tec, the company that blighted the surface.

He believes in civilisation, science and all that good stuff, but kept his children in the dark about the death of their mother and lied to the vault-dwellers about the real nature of their confinement.

He was abducted by raiders in season one, leading Lucy to emerge into the outside world in an attempt to find him.

Where you've seen Kyle MacLachlan before

You don't have to be a Twin Peaks fan to recognise Special Agent Dale Cooper. A regular in director David Lynch's repertory, he also starred in Blue Velvet and the original Dune as Paul Atreides, the character Timothée Chalamet now plays.

He's also been a regular presence on big and small screens since the '80s. You might know his voice from playing Riley's dad in the Inside Out films, or from his time in Sex and the City as Charlotte's impotent paramour Trey.

New for season 2: Justin Theroux as Robert House

A new character for the second season, House is the ruler of New Vegas, the retro-futuristic city at the heart of the Mojave Desert. As per the original videogame, Fallout: New Vegas, he is a survivor of the war who controls an army of robots.

Where you've seen Justin Theroux before

As a celebrity, he's well known as Jennifer Aniston's ex-husband and as Louis Theroux's cousin. He's also an accomplished actor and writer, of course – you might remember him from Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, American Psycho, Mulholland Drive, Joker and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He also wrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, fact fans.

Fallout is available to watch on Prime Video.
