Steven Knight's hit crime series Peaky Blinders is set to return with two brand new series.
The news was confirmed via a BBC press release, which read: "Much-loved series Peaky Blinders will return with a bang to the BBC and Netflix, telling the story of a new generation of Shelbys."
The announcement comes ahead of the Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, which doesn't have a definitive release date yet.
What to Read Next
A brief outline reveals that the new Peaky Blinders will be set in 1953 Birmingham, and goes on to say: "After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.
"In a new era of Steven Knight's Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham's massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart."
Speaking on the continuation of the franchise, creator Knight said: "I'm thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.
"Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride."
The new story will follow on from The Immortal Man, which is set during WWII and also follows the Shelby family. Though Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham, Ned Dennehy, Sophie Rundle, Ian Peck and Packy Lee will be returning for the feature-length film, there has been no confirmation just yet on who will star in the upcoming series.
The series will be produced by Kudos, who were also involved in Knight's SAS: Rogue Heroes and House of Guinness, the latter of which recently debuted on Netflix and is currently number one on the streaming site.
Also a period drama, House of Guinness follows the adult children of the recently deceased brewery owner Benjamin Guinness.
Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O'Shea star as the Guinness siblings who are struggling to deal with the fallout of their father's shocking will as they grapple with the momentous responsibility of the Guinness legacy.
"The Guinness dynasty is known the world over - wealth, poverty, power, influence, and great tragedy are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material to draw from," said Knight back when the show was first announced last year.
"I've always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see."
House of Guinness also stars Happy Valley's James Norton as the formidable Guinness foreman Sean Rafferty.
Norton praised Knight's work on the series during an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, stating: "Steven Knight is a genius, obviously, and he writes these beautifully rich, nuanced characters. You think you know who they are and then the rug is pulled."
Of his character, Norton said there was a "deliciousness" to playing the role of Rafferty.
"Rafferty loves being Rafferty and so that makes it really fun to play, because he's just having the time of his life, which makes my job really fun as well," the actor said.
