The BBC's upcoming reboot of iconic show Walking with Dinosaurs has confirmed a notable British star as its narrator.

The revival of the documentary series, which originally ran in 1999, was announced last year, and will explore the stories of six different dinosaurs.

After Kenneth Branagh narrated the original show, it has been confirmed that The Crown and Doctor Foster actor Bertie Carvel will follow in his footsteps to lend his vocal talents to the reboot.

Ahead of its May premiere, the BBC has also released an exciting trailer for the show, which showcases the CGI dinosaurs in action alongside a number of epic landscapes.

The new Walking with Dinosaurs will focus on individual dinosaurs whose remains are currently being uncovered, with species including the largest carnivorous dinosaur to walk the earth, the ​​Spinosaurus, as well as the Albertosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus.

The series will use "state-of-the-art visual effects" to bring them to life alongside cutting-edge science, working out "how these prehistoric creatures lived, hunted, fought and died more accurately than ever before".

Speaking about joining the franchise, Carvel said: "I am beyond thrilled to be a part of this exciting new reimagining of Walking With Dinosaurs.

"The BBC is a world-leader in creating groundbreaking and innovative science programming which I’ve admired all my life, so I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the team bringing the stories of these prehistoric creatures to life."

Walking with Dinosaurs will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in May.
