John Boyega has provided an exciting update on the upcoming sequel to his sci-fi hit Attack the Block.

Released in 2011, the original film centres on a South London-based teen gang who must defend themselves and their turf from predatory alien invaders on Guy Fawkes Night.

As well as Boyega, other cast members include Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost, Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker, Franz Drameh and Luke Treadaway.

In 2o21, it was announced that Boyega would reprise his role as gang leader Moses in a follow-up to the Joe Cornish-directed film, though updates on the project have since remained scarce.

However, recently speaking on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Boyega revealed that he has read Cornish's "phenomenal" draft for the sequel, adding that he and the team are "just cooking it to make it right for everyone" and looking for more funding so the effects look up to scratch for a modern audience.

"I've read it, man. It's cool, bro. Joe Cornish has done a phenomenal job on his draft. And we're just cooking it to make it right for everyone," the Star Wars actor revealed.

"And we obviously need more money for those aliens. We want it to look real good for that 2026 crowd.

"But for us, it's just about developing the story and making sure Moses and the rest of the characters that we have left are fully hashed out before bringing it out and going to shoot.

"But I'm very passionate and very willing that we will shoot Attack the Block 2. It will happen. You're going to have to see, but the story is crazy. I've got to get in the gym, Jesus."

While we know Boyega will return for the sequel, no other cast members from the original film have been confirmed for the project at the time being.

"It's been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then," Boyega said when the sequel was first announced.

"I'm excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour."
