The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, the new animated film, has been released on Netflix ahead of the release of the fourth season.

The prequel film, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s 1992 short story ‘A Little Sacrifice’, follows Geralt of Rivia (voiced by Doug Cockle) as he’s hired to investigate some strange attacks in a seaside village.

After spending some time there, Geralt - who is joined by good friend Essi Daven (voiced by Christina Wren) - is soon drawn into a centuries-old battle between the human villagers and monsters from the sea, with the hero tasked with brokering peace between the two clans.

Cockle, who voiced the character in the video game series, teased aspects of the film in a clip, sharing: “Very soon, Geralt's gonna be back in action, battling not only men and monsters, but also merpeople. That's right, he's gonna cross swords with merpeople, of all things. Amazing stuff. It's going to be so cool.”

In addition to Cockle and Wren, the voice cast for the film includes Joey Batey, Anya Chalotra and Emily Carey, with Kang Hei Chul - who previously worked on 2021’s The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf - directing from a screenplay by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin.

The release of Sirens of the Deep comes as production gets underway on the fourth season of the main Witcher show, which sees Liam Hemsworth replace Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt for the final two seasons.

“As a Witcher fan I'm over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” said Hemsworth of his new role. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I'm honoured that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure.

“Henry, I've been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
