FC Dallas holds on for 1-1 draw with SKC

FC Dallas survived a second-half barrage from Sporting Kansas City to earn a 1-1 draw at Children's Mercy Park on Wednesday night.

Kansas City (5-2-2, 17 points) dominated second-half action and after an evenly-played first half, SKC finished the match with 22 shot attempts to Dallas' five.

Dallas (2-1-4, 10 points) has conceded just five goals in 2020, the second-best mark in MLS this season. The defensive intensity was evident again as Dallas blocked 11 attempts and just three of SKC's 22 shots reached Dallas keeper Kyle Zobeck.

Kansas City nearly took the lead when Johnny Russell sailed a header just wide of the goalpost in the 67th minute and a flurry of late shot attempts produced no result.

Dallas opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Bryan Acosta centered a pass to Franco Jara and the Argentina native chipped it by SKC keeper Tim Melia for a 1-0 advantage.

Sporting K.C. tied the match during first-half stoppage time on a beautiful give-and-go.

Khiry Shelton recovered a Dallas turnover and moved the ball to midfielder Felipe Hernandez before streaking toward the Dallas goal. Hernandez advanced it to Gerso, who tapped it back to Shelton and the SKC forward buried it in the far-corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
