'Bones' Mackay to fill in as caddy for Fitzpatrick

Jim "Bones" Mackay, formerly the longtime caddie for Phil Mickelson, will be back on the bag the next two weeks as a fill-in for Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Mackay spent 25 years with Mickelson before they separated in 2017, and the caddie transitioned to a new career as an on-course analyst for NBC and the Golf Channel. He recently reached out to Fitzpatrick to offer his services, however.

"He heard through the grapevine that I was in the market for a fill-in caddie," Fitzpatrick said, per Golf Digest. "I told him I was honored that he was even reaching out."

Mackay will join the 25-year-old Fitzpatrick next week at the Workday Charity Open and the following week at the Memorial Tournament. Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, will host both tournaments.

Fitzpatrick's full-time caddy, Billy Foster, remains in England with his family during the coronavirus pandemic.

Fitzpatrick is looking for his first PGA Tour win. His best finish of 2020 was a T9 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.
