Quakes look to keep rolling at Dallas

The resurgent San Jose Earthquakes will look to keep their MLS roll going when they travel to take on FC Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

Game time is 2:30 p.m. CDT.

San Jose (2-5-1, 7 points) started the season with four straight losses, scoring only two goals while allowing 14. Since then the team has gone 2-1-1, scoring 10 times while allowing five goals.

It's a short week for the Earthquakes as they had a 2-2 draw against a strong Seattle Sounders team on Wednesday night.

San Jose coach Matias Almeyda was pleased with the performance in Seattle.

"It leaves me happy the way every player acted," said Almeyda. "They're really putting their souls into it which is what I've asked of them. This team is not giving up looking for victories. Surely playing the way we are, we have more of a chance of winning than things going badly."

One key for San Jose in this run has been the goal scoring of 32-year-old Shea Salinas - and it's been unexpected. Salinas came into the league in 2008 and scored only 13 goals in 286 appearances.

He has now scored four goals in this month alone, averaging one goal every 82 minutes.

Dallas (5-2-1, 16 points) has had a good start to the season and currently sits fourth in the Western Conference. In their last start, Dallas went on the road and came away with a 2-1 win over Atlanta United.

Midfielder Edwin Cerrillo emphasized at this point in the season the record of a team doesn't hold much water.

"It's early in the season so we don't look at the record," said Cerrillo. "We know that every team is going to come into our stadium and be hungry for more, just like we are. I think we need to take it game by game and come out with the mentality to get three points against San Jose."
