Predators trade Fiala to Wild for Granlund

The Nashville Predators traded forward Kevin Fiala to the Minnesota Wild on Monday for veteran winger Mikael Granlund in a swap of former first-round draft picks.

Granlund, who turns 27 on Tuesday, was the ninth overall pick by the Wild in 2010. He has 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists) in 63 games this season.

Fiala, 22, was the 11th overall pick by the Predators in 2014. He has 10 goals and 22 assists in 63 games this season.

Granlund is under contract through the 2019-20 season and carries a $5.75 million cap hit, according to Sportsnet. Fiala has a cap hit of $863,333 in the final year of his entry-level deal and will become a restricted free agent this summer.

Minnesota general manager Paul Fenton was an assistant GM with Nashville when Fiala was drafted.

Fiala set career highs in 2017-18 with 23 goals and 48 points.

Granlund gives the Predators more experience for a serious playoff push. He has scored at least 40 points in five of the past six seasons, setting career highs in 2016-17 with 26 goals and 69 points.
