A's RHP Treinen wins arbitration case
Oakland Athletics All-Star closer Blake Treinen won his arbitration case and will receive $6.4 million in 2019, according to multiple reports on Saturday.
Treinen's case was heard Friday, and arbitrators Steven Wolf, Allen Ponak and Phillip LaPorte selected his figure over the team's submission of $5.6 million.
The agency that represents Treinen weighed in on Twitter:
"Breaking News: Congratulations to client Blake Treinen for his arbitration victory!! A historic season capped off with another win for one of the best pitchers and best people in the game!!"
The arbitration award nearly triples Treinen's salary. The right-hander made $2.2 million when he went 9-2 with a 0.78 ERA and 38 saves in 68 relief appearances last season.
Treinen, 30, struck out 100 and walked 21 in 80 1/3 innings to finish sixth in American League Cy Young Award voting and help the Athletics reach the postseason. Oakland lost to the New York Yankees in the American League wild-card game.
