Yankees LHP Chapman (knee) placed on DL
The New York Yankees placed left-hander Aroldis Chapman on the 10-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis on Wednesday, one day after he departed a game against the Miami Marlins.
Chapman underwent an MRI exam and other tests in Miami on Wednesday. He is slated to see a New York doctor on Friday.
There is no immediate timetable per how long Chapman will be sidelined.
"We've got to keep working on it," Chapman said through an interpreter prior to Wednesday's game against the Marlins. "We'll keep doing treatment and see how the knee reacts. We've got to let it rest -- fully rest -- and see how the knee reacts to [the time off]."
Chapman threw just six pitches in the 12th inning of Tuesday's game before exiting. He has experienced trouble with the knee on other occasions this season.
"Discomfort is constant when I'm pitching, and I use my legs, put my effort on my legs and knee, and then you feel it more," Chapman said.
The 30-year-old Cuban is 3-0 with a 2.11 ERA in 50 appearances this season. He is 31-for-33 in save opportunities with 84 strikeouts and only 22 hits allowed in 47 innings.
New York manager Aaron Boone expects Chapman to come back with vigor after the break to rest his knee.
"I'm confident that he's going to play a major factor for us down the stretch and in the postseason," Boone told reporters. "I do think this is something that we'll be able to manage."
New York recalled right-hander Chance Adams from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Adams was the loser when he allowed three runs in five innings against the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 4 in his lone major league appearance.
The 24-year-old is 3-5 with a 4.98 ERA in 23 starts at the Triple-A level this season.
The Yankees also claimed catcher Chris Rabago off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. Rabago was optioned to Double-A Trenton.
