Orioles' Beckham returns from groin injury

Baltimore Orioles infielder Tim Beckham was activated from the 60-day disabled list before Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners after missing two months with a groin injury.

In corresponding moves, left-hander Donnie Hart was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk and infielder Luis Sardinas (left ankle sprain) was transferred to the 60-day DL.

Beckham started Monday's game at third base and batted eighth in the lineup opposite Mariners starter Felix Hernandez.

The 28-year-old Beckham last played April 23 at Cleveland before being placed on the disabled list with a groin strain. He underwent core surgery that kept him sidelined the two months.

Beckham is batting .179 with one home run and four RBIs in 23 games this season, his second with Baltimore. He was dealt to the Orioles from the Tampa Bay Rays before last year's trade deadline.

Baltimore entered the day with the worst record in the majors at 23-53, 27 1/2 games behind the American League East-leading New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
