Nationals place 1B Adams (finger) on DL
The Washington Nationals placed first baseman Matt Adams on the 10-day disabled list due to a fractured left index finger, the team announced Tuesday.
Adams suffered the injury while trying to bunt on Friday in a contest against the Toronto Blue Jays. The move is retroactive to Saturday.
Adams, 29, is hitting .275 with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs in 57 games this season.
The Nationals also recalled Jefry Rodriguez from Double-A Harrisburg and optioned fellow right-hander Wander Suero to Triple-A Syracuse.
The maneuvering also opened up a roster spot for right-hander Kelvin Herrera, who was acquired from the Kansas City Royals on Monday for three minor leaguers.
Rodriguez, 24, made his major league debut on June 3 against the Atlanta Braves when he allowed four hits over 4 2/3 shutout innings of relief. He is 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts for Harrisburg.
Suero, 26, is 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Nationals.
