Penguins rule out Malkin for Game 2
Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss Game 2 of the team's Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Washington Capitals on Sunday, coach Mike Sullivan has confirmed.
The Penguins lead the series after a 3-2 Game 1 win.
Malkin practiced on Saturday but was a game-time decision after sitting out Pittsburgh's last two games after suffering a leg injury in a collision with Philadelphia Flyers forward Jori Lehtera in Game 5 of the Penguins' first-round series. Malkin had five points (three goals, two assists) in five games against the Flyers.
"I feel so much better and we'll see what I feel tonight overnight," Malkin said after Saturday's practice. "I not skate for a week. It's hard to feel right now. It's a little bit hard right now. My breathing is so hard. But I need to work a little bit more and help the team."
Meanwhile, Carl Hagelin, one of Malkin's usual linemates, did not practice Saturday as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury suffered in Game 6 against the Flyers. Hagelin is also out again for Game 2.
