Warriors rule Curry out for Game 1
Steph Curry was scratched from the lineup before Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals series against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.
The Golden State Warriors did not have Curry for the opening round of the playoffs but are expecting him to play in Game 2, according to ESPN's broadcast crew.
Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry said Saturday before the game that New Orleans was preparing for Curry to be on the court.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr initially told reporters a decision on Curry's Game 1 status would be made after seeing how the guard felt Saturday morning following two days on the court. Kerr said Thursday that Curry went through the entirety of the day's practice and had no issues with his sprained MCL.
''A big part of this is how he turns up tomorrow after a night's rest,'' Kerr said. ''It's the first time he's scrimmaged in six weeks, five weeks, whatever it is. It's not as simple as he feels good, throw him out there. It's more about give him a few days, see how he responds from there.''
The date and time of Game 2 in Oakland is to be determined as the NBA awaits the results of Eastern Conference series involving the ratings-driving Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.
For his part, Curry, who has missed the team's past 15 games, including all five games of the first-round series with the San Antonio Spurs, had no complaints following Friday's work.
''I'm getting there,'' Curry said Friday. ''My knee feels pretty good. I don't have any pain with doing things I've been doing.''
