Poland - Factors to Watch April 23

RETAIL SALES DATA

The statistics office will publish retail sales data for March at 0800 GMT.

TUSK

European Council President Donald Tusk will testify as a witness in an investigation of the 2010 Smolensk plane crash that killed the former Polish president, Lech Kaczynski, and 95 others onboard.

WARSAW STOCK EXCHANGE

Shareholders at the state-run Warsaw bourse are expected to appoint the company's new CEO. The state has proposed that the current CEO Marek Dietl will continue on his post.

PKN ORLEN

The chief executive of Poland's top refiner PKN Orlen told TV Trwam on Sunday that he hopes to finish a planned merger with smaller rival Grupa Lotos in the first half of 2019.

GETBACK

Polish financial markets regulator has notified the prosecutor's office about a suspected criminal offence regarding information manipulation in relation to Polish debt collector GetBack, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily said.

Last week, GetBack informed it was in talks to secure financing from Poland's biggest bank PKO BP and state fund PFR, although both institutions denied that.

DEFICIT

Poland's structural deficit, which excludes the GDP growth impact, is expected to increase to 2.8 percent of GDP this year from 2.1 percent in 2017, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily said, citing Poland's annual update to its convergence plan.

PGG

Trade unions at Poland's biggest coal mining firm PGG may decide on Monday about a potential strike if talks with the management board on a 10 percent salary increase fail, Dziennik gazeta Prawna daily said.

TAXES

Poland may impose a new tax on the richest Poles to raise more funds for helping disabled persons in response to the disabled carers' protests in parliament, Rzeczpospolita daily said quoting the prime minister.

EMPIK

Penta Investment has no plans to sell its stake in Empik, Rzeczpospolita daily said quoting the fund's managing director.
