Kremlin experts believe that populism is gaining strength in the world and will soon play an important role in Russia, the daily reports. To fight populism, politicians need to adapt and harness the movement to their own ends, experts say.

A think tank -- under the guidance of former finance minister Alexei Kudrin -- is drawing up ideas for Russia's strategic development between now and 2035, the daily says. It cites the think tank as concluding that education and healthcare will be the main drivers of economic growth.

Aluminium giant UC RUSAL, controlled by tycoon Oleg Deripaska, has announced a mega project to build an aluminium smelter in the republic of Khakassia, the daily cites CEO Vladislav Soloviev as saying.

In 2016, Russia's 100 largest car dealers sold about only 150 vehicles more than the year before, but managed to increase their revenues by 15 percent, the daily says.

Russia's central bank revoked the license of the "Obrazovanye" bank, which was one of the country's top 100 banks with assets of 47.3 billion roubles ($841 million).
