- Police are investigating soil pollution with chemical waste in Ryazan region, almost 200 km south of Moscow. Sulphuric acid was delivered to the local Turlatovo waste storage plant from a former chemical plant in Volgograd under a state program for the destruction of poisonous chemicals, the daily says.
- President Vladimir Putin is due to sign in the very near future a new decree regulating the distribution of his grants to non-governmental organisations. Sergei Kiriyenko, Deputy chief of the presidential administration, will be in charge of the coordinating committee, the daily says.
