Poland - Factors to Watch July 22

Following are news stories, press reports and events to watch that may affect Poland's financial markets on Wednesday. ALL TIMES GMT (Poland: GMT + 2 hours):

CENTRAL BANK

The National Bank of Poland governor Marek Belka will hold a speech in the parliament after 0800 GMT.

LAW AND JUSTICE

Poland's opposition Law and Justice party (PiS), favourite to form the next government, looks to impose a new tax on lenders and supermarkets from January 1, 2016, PiS lawmaker and former deputy treasury minister Pawel Szalamacha told Rzeczpospolita daily.

Szalamacha also said that if elected, Law and Justice will keep the general government deficit below the European Union's recommended threshold of 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

PKP ENERGETYKA

PKP Energetyka, a utility arm of Poland's railway group PKP, targets an EBITDA of 17 million zlotys ($4.5 million) on electricity sales this year, compared to 4.6 million in 2014, Rzeczpospolita quoted the company's chief executive as saying.

NATO

The alliance's summit in Warsaw in 2016 will not make a decision on creating permanent NATO bases in Poland, but rotational military presence will be maintained, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe John Heffern told Rzeczpospolita daily.

NATO will not approve a formal step to a potential Ukrainian membership, the so-called Membership Action Plan, at the summit, he also said.
